Help - my Skoda is going crazy!

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone

I've joined this forum in utter despiration. My Black Octavia VRS (53 reg) has been a thing of wonder for 2 years but in the last 6 months has become a nightmare.

The electrics are just completely unreliable. I've had:

1. Engine cooling fans that come on a day after the car has been driven and stay on until the battery is flat. Dealer could not find a fault. It then stopped happening.

2. Indicators that stayed on (without flashing) and then just stopped altogether - a new switch cured that

3. Brake lights that remained ON whilst driving and after the ingnition was switched off. A new switch cured that too.

4. Cruise control that just stopped working one day - new switch required again ...

5. ASR warning light the comes on from time to time and then goes off again ... still no cure for that one ....

6. I've just returned from 2 weeks holiday to find problem #1 has re-occurred requiring 2 jump starts from my wife's battered (but completely reliable) w reg ford Mondeo.

This car is single handedly destroying the Skoda brand image amongst my family and work colleagues.

So;

Before I push this thing off a cliff can someone please convince me that Skoda are worth sticking with by suggesting a possible cause to "advise" the dealer off.

Many thanks...

Hello and welcome to Briskoda.

Most people on here are crazy too, so your car should fit in well!

Might be worth trying to find a member with Vag Com near you - most will be willing to help (for a few beer tokens).

Have a look in this thread

Cooling fans isnt an unheard of issue, could be a faulty fan control unit or an issue with the climate control (excess pressure fault).

Indicators is a known issue, usually down to a hazzard switch

Brake lights, also common issue, modified purple switch for this one

Cruise, not had that one personally (wasnt the indicator switch replaced for the indicator fault then)

ASR light - not when loosing traction i take it?

Keep the faith.

Thanks for the comments, reassuring to know you are not alone....

Car dead as a dodo again this morning :thumbdwn: . Tried the dealer - can't/won't do anything until Tuesday - they advised calling AA as it's still under warranty. Can they do much?

I had an issue with cruise control in 4x4 hatch the AA diagnosed it!!

Faulty brake light switch causing cruise control to deactivate as soon as I set a speed

You don't call your car Christine do you
