Fabia 1.4 mpi hesitant acceleration

Featured Replies

Hi new to this forum, please be kind! My 54 plate 100bhp fabia is hesitant when pulling away the only way to get round the problem is to rev the car more than normal, it has been to skoda and tested on the computer no fault! Wondering if it could be plugs or leads, one a lighter note how do I get the large plastic engine cover off without breaking it?

cheers tait71

It's the Drive By Wire (Electornic Throttle) and it's trying to be economical by stopping you from altering your throttle position constantly. Quite normal

hi, it only seems to happen when stopped, i.e. if you stop at a roundabout engage 1st then pull away you seem to get a dip in power then you are off quite scarier if you forget its like that, also don

Are you sure your car is the 100hp version? If it is the 100hp 1.4 litre it is the 16 valve version and a VW motor. If it is the MPI it is a lower powered (Skoda) 1.4 8 valve. If its an MPI it will say MPI on the hatch, if its 16 valve it will state that in red letters in the same place on the hatch.

Do you have stops and starts in your daily drive that you didn't have before or slow moving traffic? Those seem to affect the response time of my 1.4 16 valve off the line, although it seems to have adapted somewhat to my driving style since I bought it and doesn't seem quite as "slow" as before. lol

hi, defo an mpi and the dealer said it was 100bhp, the car does a lot of town driving so what happens does the brain retrain its self for those conditions ? the car was smoother on take off when she was newer, once you wind it up she flys, nice:eek:

That solves some confusion. Skoda label cars as MPI to diffrentiate them from 16 valve or FSI engines. As I said, some hesitation is normal and to be expected. Just let your dealer know this is still and issue and see what they come up with

Try running through a fuel injector cleaner, this will clean your injectors and help restore smooth acceleration and various of other benefits.

I suggest STP Injector Cleaner for Petrol Cars...... One bottle will clean the injectors for a 4,000 miles stint...... 1 bottle to a full tank of petrol. Run it through, if this don't help there might be another issue. (give it 2 weeks to run through)

I had the same problem on the 1.3Gli Felicia I have, but since this STP went through it has sorted the issue. Also When was your last service. (Fuel Filter may need changing)

Another thing comes to mind what is the state of your Cat ??? A corroded one will cause hesitation....

to be honest there is a few other things that could be the cause, but I would start with the STP Injector Cleaner and go from there :D (You can get a bottle in Halfords)

Hope tghis helps :D

Might be worth mentioning that Skoda do not condone the use of any additives in your fuel
