5 Litre Washer Bottle Modification - Pictorial

Featured Replies

I have produced this guide for those owners of cars without headlight washers fitted, who wish to upgrade thier exsisting 2 litre washer bottle to a 5 litre washer bottle.

If (like me) you cover a lot of miles, this modification means that you refill your washer bottle less frequently. Particularly handy in the winter

THANKS TO THOSE BRISKODIANS WHOSE GUIDE I FOLLOWED AND HAVE "BORROWED" SOME KEY INFORMATION FROM

Really finding this beneficial now with all the muck on the roads :D

I have this already as the guy who owned the car before me had it.

Really wouldn't be without it.

Believe it or not, when you have Xenons 5 ltrs still isn't enough at this time of year!

:bump: Great mod for this time of year :D

What a great mod, and a good guide too! About

Great guide - my mum's old Ibiza had a 5l bottle as standard, dunno why a) they fitted the Fabia with the smaller one, B) the level sensor is so far off the bottom...

Will be looking to do this when/if I get an aquamist water/methanol injection kit. I'll run 50/50 mix in the washer bottle which will be perfect for both tasks (and perhaps a bit whiffy as screenwash but who cares :D)

Hi all ! I am looking in to changing my 2l bottle with the 5l one in my Fabia, but also I am looking in to installing the sensor wich tells me that I have no fluid left. I did my research and know how to activate the function with VAG-COM , but haven't figured out where the 2 wires from the sensor should go. Anyone has any ideeas ?

Thank you !

For referance the vag-com coding :

[select]

[17 - Instruments]

[Recode - 07]

Write down the existing coding for future reference.

Enter 5-digit code from below

[Do It!]

Look at the first two digits in the coding. Add the values for the options together to get the correct coding.

+04 - Washer fluid level warning active

.

Also on Octavia one wire from the sensor must be coupled with the 6'th pin of the green T32A connector behind the instrument cluster. the other wire must be ground connected. I am looking for directions if this is also the correct location on Fabia.

The code for the Octavia " WATHER LEVEL SWITCH" is 7M0 919 376 . I am not sure about the code for Fabia but I am 95% sure that is the same sensor.

This is a great mod. Just this morning was swearing as the last bit of screen wash was used up.

That is the great thing about this forum. There is so much information on genuinely useful modifications.

Not "how to fit a 10 foot spoiler"

I shall be trying this one.

Mark

I am getting mine fitted tomorrow

Mark is doing it for me , bless on his day off

He is also installing some dual horns

As when I peep my horn it is because I am MAD :( and the horns say "excuse me sir , you have made me slightly mad thank you"

I am gettin g some that say "GET OUT MY WAY"

Could have said better , but I dont swear ;)

So looking forward to the results

I used to carry a bottle in the boot strapped down for when I ran out of washer fluid

Oooh cant wait :D

I completed this 'performance enhancement' today, and wanted to say thanks for an excellent guide. It was extremely helpful.

I found out a few things along the way:

Taking the bumper off and refitting was much easier than expected - mine has the square-ish foglamps which could be unplugged after the bumper was removed.

Jacking the car up was useful when getting the old bottle out and new one in, because it gave a bit more clearance and twisting room.

Similarly, hosing down the filler neck and surrounding area with WD40/GT85/spray lube of choice made the extraction and refitting much easier.

The headlight washer pump hole is 20mm diameter - I waited until I had the old bottle out to confirm which hole was needed. In retrospect it would have been much better to get the new bottle properly sealed up before starting work on the car. I eventually used epoxy putty (one of those ding sticks that you mix by kneading) which seemed easier than trying to get a perfectly matching bung.

Don't do what I did and drop the socket when trying to reach the 10mm nut down the side of the battery box - it took the best part of half an hour of poking with a screwdriver to fish it back out!

Overall, a relatively simple process, so thanks again for the guide. Question is, will 5l be enough on salty and rural roads?

You're welcome

Nope :D

Had a crack at this today (and yesterday  ) and I would warn anyone else thinking of doing it to make sure the nut next to the bottom of the battery hasn't seized before you even order the 5l bottle. The nut near the fill cap goes onto a welded stud, so that's not a problem, and the one behind the bumper can be gripped from the other side with a mole wrench to stop the bolt it goes onto spinning. But you can't get to the other side of the one beside the bottom of the battery, so unless you have a 14" drill bit to drill it out, you're just going to have to make do with the standard 2.5l one as you're never going to get it out... :thumbdwn:

Apropos of which, if anyone wants a 5l bottle bunged and ready-to-go, it can be yours for nowt provided the postage isn't too extortionate (the bottle's about the size of a violin or something - it's bigger than you think!!!)

TBH I'm not sure. It may be worth cross posting in the Octy MkII section. I have already priced up and sorted the parts for a Roomster/Fabia MkII conversion.
