Industry grape vine - Jaguar's potential new owner

Featured Replies

As some of you may know (particularly those who work there) Ford are looking at selling Jaguar Cars. Well there is an interesting rumor going around that they could be bought by another Midlands firm - JCB !

Could be a very interesting development if true, and would allow for some good jokes at Jag owners' expense

that was in the paper the other day. The problem is that Ford want Land Rover to be part of any deal, which JCB do not want and would want Ford to foot the bill to seperate the two companies.

I've read in one of the car mags that Hyundai are looking at it and a deal may have already been done.

Personally I think that if LR and Jag must be sold as one, it wont be a European firm that buys them.

LMAO if Hyundai owned Jaguar - the budget brand owning the 'luxury' marque

Like Proton and Lotus you mean?

Like Proton and Lotus you mean?

Yep, think thats exactly what he means.

And funnily - I don't think I've ever heard a Lotus/Proton joke on the matter. (Plenty of people bigging up their Protons mind! )

Like Proton and Lotus you mean?

Exactly that!

Thought it was a development partnership TBH!

Reason Hyundai-Jag would be so funny is I know a Jag driver who regularly mocks a Hyundai driver, it really would be funny calling his 'Mundano X-Type' an 'Accent X-Type'

wouldnt it be GM i could see them buying jag, tho there thinking of dropping vauxhall soon - so i've read. but to sell jag wouldnt that go the same way as mg rover did? bmw bought them for a week then got rid of them! or maybe the chinese want to buy all the british car firms... they have potential too in a few years time...who knows

Have you seen one of the new Hyundai Sonata's in the flesh yet?

It looks a huge leap forward in quality and design.

nice car... but still screams tack. doors dont clunk like a quality car does, everythings had me downs from previose cars. but the amount of kit and toys and stuff would make someone a very happy bunny if they bought one. and second hand would be a proper bargan! my mate had a 2.0 Coupe. looked great as a car but it was sooo thirsty i told him to dump it and get the furby vrs. but the fact that he put it on sale last december and still hasnt had anyone buy if off him! but theres such a huge way to go for Hyundai :)

My missus' Getz leads a very hard llife - it was her first car and with under 20 miles on the clock it was laboured, stalled, overrevved etc and still continues to be abused daily

Other than servicing it's as fresh as it was on day one. Seems to wear the miles and years better than my (1 yr younger) furby.

It's actually pretty decent to drive for that ilk of car too

Edit: 5 yr warranty and 3 yr servicing too - it's cost her virtually nothing in over 2 years. Wish other manufacturers would follow suit (or that their products were well built enough for them not to need to).

Wasn't until the Elise that Lotus gained any good reputation, before that it was just exotic looking, but unreliable junk. Lotus and Proton is hardly the sublime and the ridiculous.

ford arnt wanting to sell jag and landrover off now but they are wanting to sell aston martin

BMW and the nissan/reanult are the main people involved in that deal

ford tho have the option to buy the "rover" name from bmw this leading to a deal with the aston martin marque

BMW need the aston marque as at the moment they do not have a luxery Supercar/GT to go between the likes of the 6series and rolls royce

I was about to say "Rubbish - look at James Bond!", but then remembered that the white Esprit got trashed, and the red one blew up when someone put the window in. So you may have a point.
