Window going "ploink!"

Featured Replies

First of all: please don't mind my spelling; I'm Norwegian...

Trying to close my passenger side window today, I noticed it first was going kind of slow, before the "Ploink!" noise appeared and the window stopped...

I've now removed the door trim panel, revealing a steel panel (aurrggh!!:( )

Then unscrewed the steel panel trying to loosen it - finding that it's pop-rivitted aswell (AURRGGH:finger: )

Then I drilled out the rivets, losened the steel panel, and to my surprise I discovered that these rivets is what is actually holding the rails for the window in position. These rails are also longer than the opening in the door (when rails are in position)

How on earth am I supposed to get this back on again? (and how the f... did they mount this in the first place?!?

(Discovered that the faulty window comes from jammed wire in the lifting mechanism)

Please help me!

Norwegian in distress.

Your not supposed to drill the rivets out. You unbolt the window from the regulator through he two round holes and then remove the whole silver panel with the regulator still on the back of it.

But as its the regulator thats broken (common fault) and you need a new one it doesnt matter as it comes complete with a whole new panel anyhow.

Hey

Enda en nordmann!! :D

Thnx Lummox !

I feel a bit stupid now though...:(

Any idea of the price for the complete kit?

And still it must be a real pain to fit? or?

And also - Is there any way I could just fixate the window in top position and try to be happy with my other three windows?

You could just do what I've done and wedge a piece of wood in there! I'll fix it eventually I suppose but the woods been in there a while and seems to be doing the job OK at the moment!

I do agree with You, except that I'm considering not fixing it eventually...

So therefor I want to fixate it properly;)

I don't think I'll miss the functonality, but at least I want it to look OK:cool:

I had a golf MkIV and the window crashed off the rails, had to replace the whole thing and it cost 230€ at my local village garage, VW of course quoted 450€ suns of beaches

I had the regulator problem on mine recently - £170 to fix from a local garage. :(

I've checked with the Skoda dealer here in Norway now - ca

Try a scrapyard... you might get a working mechanism :)

Someone - Anyone - Please can You help me with an idea on how to fixate my window?

Just to finish this one:

I'w now completely removed the mechanism, and made some brackets to fixate the window.

Works for now, and the brackets can easily be remowved for future replacement of new mechanism.

So all good - now I can drive in the rain again!
