Why does the Fabia VRS ride and handle better

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Got a Ibiza FR 130 and wondered what I might need to change to get the Fabia ride quality? Or come to that better than fabia ride.

I assume that its all springs and shocks?

But maybe arb's?

I

My understanding is it's because the FR has "better" handling, ie stiffer springs, which on many of our roads is not a good thing. However, saying that, on good roads, the Fabia is poorer and the softness of the suspension is really highlighted. I opted for a set of Eibach springs and dampers which didn't affect the ride comfort, but really tightened up the handling. The ARB is primarily for reducing body roll so won't affect comfort but will improve handling :D

TBH Chris on the 'comfort' with regards the rear ARB, I'd say it kinda does.

The reasoning behind this: as the car rolls less SWMBO doesn't complain when you corner at some pace. Without the rear ARB the car would lean a lot more, and I'd get moaned at. So in that sense it increases comfort a fair bit too.

I cant remember what combo it is.. but seat had "sport concept" marketing bulls**t which means they would use stiff springs and weak dampers/arb or it might have been weak springs and stiff dampers..

either way.. i would argue that the fabia is more comfortable and handles better than every ibiza bar the cupra out the box

(unless they re-tuned the suspension when they did the facelift at the start of the year)

the fabia vrs has got a stiffer front anti roll bar than the ibiza fr

Different chassis?

Different chassis?

nah!

If I remember right. The FR models had stiffer springs and dampers over the old sport models. Then the Cupra had a thicker ARB (same as vRS), softer springs and stiffer damepers over the FR models.

If you want to improve your ride koni FSD might be an answer.

nah!

They have the same chassis???:confused:

They have the same chassis???:confused:

except for the fact that they obviously have different body panels the are exactly the same underneath, same engines, runnning gear etc... the floorpan is indentical

This has been bugging me, as I

but is it possible that the VRs has a slightly wider rear track than the standard, due to different offsets on it

in this particular case we are talking about 5mm differnce per side. that could be due to 43mm offset wheels on the fabia and 48mm on the ibiza.
