squeaky/whistling Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

Anybody help?

I seem to remember a thread recently about noise/whistling from Fabia VRS? but cannot find it

I have had mine just over 2 weeks, although the car is 10 months old. Just over the past day or 2, there has been really strange sort of whining noise when I am in low gears (and no, the kids were not in the car at the time:P )

I noticed it when I set off round a roundabout, in 1st gear, then in 2nd gear and it seemed to be quite loud, it was there when I gave it gas and when I let my foot off:confused: It does not seem to be a fanbelt sort of noise but does not seem to be connected to the engine revs, if that makes sense! I do not really know much about engines, being female!)

Someone suggested turbo noise, but it has only just started doing it and seems more of a squeaky/whine noise

any ideas?

don't want to be going back to dealer just yet, anyway, am going into hospital tomorrow, so whatever it is, will just have to wait for a week or so:(

does it do it more when you are on overrun (driving along lifting foot off aceelrator but still in gear)?? if it's this i would point to the gearbox..

also the other thing to check out is the aircon pump, the one on my fabia got a bit noisy like that.

I've not had aircon on, but yes, it is in gear, 1st or 2nd, and then I lift off gas to slow down and thats when it happens but it carries on when I put foot back on gas and speed up, but its not every time. Once I go into 3rd gear and above I have not heard it. It happened once today and a couple of times in past week

Come to think about it, I do find the gearbox in that car really stiff, especially trying to put it into 2nd, but I thought it was just the car:confused:

I'll have to get otherhalf to come out with me and see what the Wise One has to say!!!!!!

cheers for that:thumbup:

the first thing i would do if the gearbox was suspect is change the oil. the thick and goupy old oil can cause noisyness in the bearings and cause difficulty selecting gears

I have this noise too - mine is only 4 weeks old with 2400 miles on the clock - and I actually think my clutch is slipping. It only does it in the lower gears, 1st-2nd, 2nd-3rd and it sounds like the fanbelt is slipping for 1-2 seconds then it goes quiet.

My car is totally standard so it shouldn't be a power issue.
