Day Tripper, was in the Opel Manta Owners Club for about 7 years (Midlands) and still occasionally see the lads and lasses for a drink.

My car won Billing 92 for best modified C. Aah those were the days! Would love to see your car...maybe go for a blast sometime! :D

The car looks superb. I still have Manta Magic on VHS somewhere with Bertie Fisher on The Circuit Of Ireland 1985....Memories memories....

Ive must have watched manta magic about 10 times in the last month alone.

Here is a poor pic of my manta at the moment on this ebay ad.

eBay.co.uk: Opel Manta Spilt Rim Alloys Compomotive CX (item 110056923687 end time 27-Nov-06 13:12:46 GMT)

I changed my mind with the 400 stripes and instead Im getting the bertie fisher pattern but in the 400 colours with full stickers.

Im from Manchester so its a bit far from the midlands, although if theres a briskoda track day in the futre and the car is ready your more than welcome.

Not the Jimmy McRae colours? :(

The ac delco livery?

Its uses up alot of film and is quite a complex design. It would work out quite expensive.

How are you copying the livery? Is it from photos or Manta Magic. I alsways liked Austin McHale's livery. I think it was black with Castrol logo's wasn't it?

Hope you've got the original ZF dog leg box as well, used to love that in my mate's Ascona 400.

Well guys, that's why I've not voted in the poll - no Ascona 400, Manta 400, 037 "Rally", and that's just ones I know had a Gp B homologation. There's also no Chevette HSR, Escort (mk1 or 2) or Stratos!

The Stratos,Chevette and Escorts were Group 4,the stuff listed was Group B.Skoda had a Group B car in the shape of the 130LR and was renowned as a giant killer ! In fact Skoda were leading the National Breakdown Rally in 86 ahead of Mikkola's Sport quattro before Hauglands gearbox went pop (very rare mechanical failure) ! My friend John Shelley owns Hauglands 1987 130LR in the Czech Republic and i can say it is an awsome car for such a small engine ! I guess oodles of alloy in the doors help the weight problem.

If any of you manta/ascona/stratos lovers have the time the next few days, the roger albert clark rally is in town, and well worth a vist. Multitudes of escorts, going and sounding well, a few 911's that are alwys fun, a couple of guys in mantas, nither of which could really drive from what i saw (one of which is in the afore mentioned AC Delco colours), and an ascona that was going quite well, and then the stratos that was going well when it worked, which wasnt very often today!! All excellent cars being used as they should be.

Where is this rally?

I have a cad drawing of the bertie fisher car, ive given this to the bodyshop and they will make up the pattern. Its much easier than the other 400 liveries. As for the decals ive got them off ebay.

The gearbox in mine is from the gsi 24v 3.0.

the rally has been up in to scotland way today but will be coming back down to yorshire tomorrow. This site is the official site fot the rally. RAC

Can't seem to get onto the site, just comes up as page not found

How did you manage to get the cad's? Nice touch. The decals you bought from e-bay I am assuming they are copies. I guess the originals would be a bit faded :D

Austin Mchale's car was the mean black one with I think shell stripes.

I got the cad drawings off a friend in the manta club who got them of a european who was also making a replica. Yes the stickers are reproduction ones. It wont be an exact replica but it will look awesome when finished.

I also like the Citroen BX 4 TC group b car.

BX 4TC EVOLUTION

I'm going to assume that the second picture is at Billing?

I remember it well. If you ever see the Midlands Manta bunch (especially Paul Brennecker & Mick & Jackie Maher) tell them Andre says hello.

Why isnt the Manta 400 on the poll. That is the greatest group b car by far. They were racing long before the 4wd cars and stayed in the rallies while the cars above were dropping out due to reliability issues.

Quattro was first out in 1980/81 as a Group 4 car then Group B which predates the Manta.

I've just found my box of dozens of official works press photos of the various Quattros including the DTM and touring cars as well as press packs.

Just brought back so many memories including attending several World and British Championship events as a guest of Audi Sport and Volkswagen Racing.

And as for Michelle Mouton:D

Cheers,

Steve

Yeah, I knew about the Gp4 cars, but having listed my favourite GpB cars, decided to go on and list all my other favourite rally cars.

Arr the welsh forests back in the late 80s! The cherp of the Audi, the bark of the MG 6R4, whale of a the S4 and hissing RS200 and T16

I love the RS200, the EVO could do 0-60 in 2.1 seconds!!!!!!

Love the sound of the Audi :D

But you've missed off the only car to have an F1 tubo on it (back when they produced 1500bhp from 1500cc's!!!!)

The Peugeot 205 T16!!

I had a matchbox car of one when i was a kid. Wish i could find it now :grumpy:

My vote goes to the excellent rs200

I loved seeing these babies in action

Also quite liked the 6R4's, used to make me laugh seeing the kit you could buy to turn your metro into one

Rallycross was ace, was it really that long ago though!?!... jeez!!!

Saw this in a motor museum whilst in Las Vegas a while back, along with some other fine cars as well, stunning

Cant help but love these beasts,my favs were the insanity that was the quattro s1 and t16! Happen to have 2 crackin models of these 2 monsters

The Heritage Motor Museum in Gaydon has the RS200 & RS2000 and a few others inc Tony Pond's TR8. ;)

The one in Coventry (whatever it's called) has or had a Lotus Sunbeam, and I'm pretty sure will have both Thrust 2 and Thrust SSC on display.

Where did you get those models from and are they kits or did you buy them like that? They look great!

Built them both, the quattro is as it is out the box but the pug is a standard T16 evo 1 with the additional parts to upgrade it to evo 2 specs.

Cheers, lot of effort went into them sorry the pic quality aint great it was taken with my phone.

I have long fancied an s1 spec quattro and have never found one, do you know who made the kit for it? I aready have the kits for all of the different colour shcems that have been produed for the A1 quattros and the short wheelbase versions are the only ones that are missing from the collection.

Its made by a company called Reji and it is a resin kit,i got it from ebay and id say thats about the only place your likely to find it as its as rare as rocking horse **** and was only ever made in very small numbers,i havent seen it since i got it but hey we know what ebays like so you never know, good luck.
