Because i have driven an Audi quattro S1 as I was a car mechanic, I think that there are very few cars that can compare with it!

We've got a load of 6R4s on the prom rally this weekend and a Stratos replica.

Not sure about group B but these oldies sound good :D

clicky warning 33mb

i've gone for the audi's for the wow factore that they had when i was at school.

i went to watch some lombard stages & remember waiting to see every car go by.

including the skoda estelles.

just been reading the team bouncing czech site ... well worth a gander for its insight

Absolutely has be be the Lancia Delta s4, spectacular to see and hear. Shame they are not around anymore. Go to "youtube.com" and search for "group b rally car" for lots of vids. Enjoy

RS200 gets my vote... if it were up there

it's impossible (IMHO) to better the noise of a sport quattro at full chat....

winner!

Can't make my mind up on my favourite but found 2 beauties that would have been awesome had group B not been cancelled.

Is that the one where his feet are the starts of the show ???? That is some fancy footwork on the pedals !

I , thats the one ..man is a genius. For sure.

Not seen that one, but what sold me on NASCAR was seeing "The Intimidator" lapping Sebring with a "screen in screen" pedalcam sat on the outside shot of this big Yank lump (the car).

Will you marry me?

Stratos = Automotive porn, and then some extras besides.

I voted Audi. I want one so badly it hurts.

The stratos is an awsome car, im lucky enough to have had a ride in a genuine road car last year, the owner of which a couple of weeks later bouth a genuin rally example which im hoping i might get to have a ride in at some point.

Proof that the lucky bugger has too much money after the ride in the stratos i had a ride in his 03 spec focus wrc ex Marco Martin car, whilst with him i asked him which was his favorite, he said it was the Ex works short wheelbase Quattro, currently dinoed at 400bhp i belive.

I voted for the Quattro on the basis my dad owns a road car, he worked on the rally cars and it is the most awsome sounding and looking machine to ever grace a rally stage.

Incidentally most of the stage records are currently held by WRC cars, just on the basis they may weigh more and have less power but they are infinalty more drivable. Though there are still a few held by Group B monsters, a stat that i hope continues to stand for a long time to come.

That's cos in 1985, group B was using cars with up to 700 bhp. People were being killed by these monsters and things got a little out of hand. Audi did the right thing when Henri Toivenen was killed and pulled out of rallying. Great driver, sad time for rallying. :(

Henri Tiovenen's crash was a bad one on the Tour of Corsica...but was made 100x worse by the fact that Lancia was using fuel from the Ferrari F1 team at the time to get extra power from the Delta.....it was 80% Tolulene!!!!!....makes std petrol seem like diesel in flammability terms......so unfortunatley the car turned into an inferno

Walter Rohl was only good when he had pace notes....he hated the Lombard RAC and actively avioded it because it was run blind...the best 'blind' rally drivers were Hanuu Mikkola, Per Eklund and Stig Blomqvist

Why isnt the Manta 400 on the poll. That is the greatest group b car by far. They were racing long before the 4wd cars and stayed in the rallies while the cars above were dropping out due to reliability issues.

At last someone said it. What a car, the best normally aspirated Group B car, which was as close to a production car as possible. Who could forget Brookes and McRae's battles in the 83-85 seasons  An old friend of mine had a genuine Manta 400 ex Austin McHale (Irish ex-champion) The Manta was an Irishman's dream car, also it's forerunner the Ascona 400 should not be forgotten, I believe a Mr Walter Rohl was a bit handy with one.

Ari Vatanen, Henri Toivonen and Marku Allen all drove Manta's.

Here's an Ascona 4oo for those who have never seen one....for me it's drool drool drool, if only I hadn't turned the bloke down who tried to sell me a road going version 10 years ago......mind you parts for it......rareer than rockinhorse droppings ;)

Here's a picy of what I could have bought....In full Opel regalia....

There were also some roumours that they were using the roll cage as an extension of the fuel tank which would have furher compunded any issues.

Both are awesome. Apparently the ascona had the edge between them both.

I have a manta 400r. Its currently in the bodyshop being welded and having the 400 (above stripes) sprayed on.

Is it an original or a GTE with a kit? I had 2 GTE's and a Manta B coupe. Would love to see the photos.

Has anyone mentioned the awsome Lancia 037, my friend has a ex works safari car that i had the pleasure of going in at the eifel rally in germany back in july I was with him for the rally as a spanner man but on the second day the gearbox was making a strange noise so he pulled out he says its only for fun so not worth blowin a box

just noticed that you guys have mentioned the 037 i can confirm they are 2wd also met Walter Rohrl and Bjorn Waldergard very nice chaps

Well guys, that's why I've not voted in the poll - no Ascona 400, Manta 400, 037 "Rally", and that's just ones I know had a Gp B homologation. There's also no Chevette HSR, Escort (mk1 or 2) or Stratos!
