MFD 2 sat nav, it is actually any good?

Featured Replies

I am seriously considering one of these units but I would like some opinions on the mapping, accuracy, voice guidance and such like. I have a navman iCN 550 with the TMC module at the moment and I want to know if it's worth changing to the MFD2. Any opinions, good or bad would be appreciated. Ta

I love my factory fit Sat Nav, it works very well, starts up very quickly, gets a fix very very quickly but the downside is the TMC discs cost a fortune. Check out the prices before you commit.

Thanks Elanore. I had factory fit DVD sat nav in my old Primera (No s******ing at the back!) and it was excellent. When the fuel light came on it would re route to the nearest garage.

I have seen a few on ebay that look OK but will obviously lack the TMC enabled disc.

Any idea roughly how much the TMC disc costs? Are we talking hundreds of

Impressed with my MFD2, does what it is designed for, very easy to use, fast routing. Sure it's not cheap but it was my preference over many other systems have tried

I have also been looking at this. I have noticed that the newer VW units are DVD MFD2.

I suspect these cover Europe, and will play MP3 cds.

Can anyone tell me slots the CD version of the MFD2. i.e. can is there a CD slot and a seperate CD slot for the Nav disc ?

Or is it a simple case of plugging the CD Changer into the back of the unit ?

I can tell you that the newest DVD MFD2 only has 1 slot, and it's for the Navigation DVD. I can also tell you that there is currently no DVD with TMC (traffic) available either. I also know that you can plug a CD changer into the MFD2 (my mother's Golf has the MFD2 with CD changer), but I can't tell you how it connects (or whether it needs a particular CD changer).

Can anyone post a pic of one of these setup in their mk2 octy with the new dash surround etc

cheers

The MFD2 is the best bet at the moment, the VW ones are illuminated in that silly red and blue effort (Sorry VW chaps but it makes my eyes hurt). The VW unit would look a tad stoopid in a sea of green. :sofahide:

I am going for a proper Skoda MFD2, it supports the autochanger via the usual quadlock connector and has a plug for AUX input. The ultimate setup I am after is the ability to play DVD's and telly through it. Thats what I had in my old Octavia via a JVC KD-AVX1

The only stumbling block is the surround, I want a silvery one as the grey plastic one is too dull, does anyone have the part number for it with 2Zone climate?
