wax or polish

Featured Replies

now i have my new fabia.i want to clean it at least once a week.i'll be using turtle was shampoo (loads of it in the garage) but do i use wax or polish afterwards ?

thanks

Depends on the manufacturers, as some use the words interchangeably...

Traditionally, you should use both - polish is applied as a very very mild abrasive to make the surface smooth and shiny. Wax is then applied afterwards to form a protective sacrificial barrier over the paintwork.

Using a fairly modestly priced wax, you'd probably end up washing and waxing every time, with polish only being used every so often.

Check out the guides on Polished Bliss - many people seem to use these as their cleaning bible

i like to wax my car whenever i get time to do it... (especially the roof and the bonnet)

If it's a new car, the painwork should already be in good condition.

Sometimes it's benificial to use a paint cleaner to remove the old cheap wax used at the dealer/factory.

I would only use a good wax. Only polish the car if it needs it as some abrasive polishes take away a layer of clear coat/paint.
