Opinions on Megs 3 stage cleaners

Featured Replies

What is anyones opinions on the meguires 3 stage bottles.

Halfrauds had the megs stuff on 3 for 2 so i bought some for me dads car.

Anybody got any tips on any of the three stages or comments on hand or machine waxing the thing?

Ta

I like the Megs stuff, I use their clay bar and gold class wax on my car.

The verdict is generally that the wax from the 3 stage system isn't very good, though the paint cleaner seemed ok when I've used it.

If I were you i'd wash it (Megs NXT shampoo is great)

Then clay it with the Megs quick clay kit

then wax with something like megs nxt wax

that's if you want to stick to the sort of stuff you can get in halfords, if you want to do more then there are lots of excellent waxes from other places (Chemical Guys XXX Hardcore wax is excellent, as is poorboys nattys blue on dark cars, etc etc)

I'm specifically talking about the stage 1 cleaner, stage 2 polish stage 3 wax bottles :)

Ta for feedback though

Ahh well, I figured I would give it a shot as my dads car only ever gets zip wax or whatever wash and wax is cheap and while far from looking bad looks a bit of a dirty silver if that makes sense.

I bought the set and found to be very good, but agree that the wax (although good) doesn't seem as good as it could be.

I applied using the megs applicators (help you in not applying too much)

The main piece of advice would be to apply and buff off small areas at a time (eg split the roof into quarters etc)

Good luck

It'll be a lot better than a cheap wash and wax for sure :)

Stage 3 is awful :thumbdwn: very greasey and hard to get off! I like stage one, it's like a very fine t-cut

Best wax is Collinite wax

915 Marque D'Elegance Wax is the mutts and 476s Super Doublecoat wax ain't that bad either :D:thumbup:

I like all of them, it took me 9 hours but had a very shiny car!

Stage one is a chemical paint cleaner. It will clean the paint of any deep ground in dirt. Use panel at a time, do not let it dry/haze, and use in thin applications.

Stage 2 is a glaze really, not a polish. Use as per stage 1. It contains fillers so will help to maks any swirls, but thats not one of its best qualities.

Stage 3, the wax. Apply this so thin you can hardly see it. It is a real pain to use, not a good wax IMHO. Its very low on durability, and can be streaky. I'd be more inclined to top with AG gloss enhencer (sealant) and get far better durabilty. (thinking about what Halfruads sell )... have fun.

I did all three stages and then spent a long time with my hands and a polisher getting the wax to shine, Eventuially did it and applied a coat of hard carnuba wax polish to the car.

There was one in the garage that he had picked up on special a couple of years ago completely unopened. :o

Next time he can pay somebody to clean, clay and polish and wax it. :p
