I want to put a set of 19" alloys on my VRS, i know the offset for the stock wheels is et37. alot of wheels for sale are et35 (ie audi replica wheels) which are the ones im look at. i had some rs4 put on my car by local tyre garage, they put the wheels on, then said they didnt fit properly hanging out of the arches too far!? these wheels were et35.

Does any one know or had any problems with slightly different offset wheels.

A friend of a friend has a OctyVRS also and has some audi wheels on his car at the moment i dont know the offset (trying to find out) but he has recently had lots of problems with knocking noises which has caused a need to replace steering rack, top strut mount bushes.

Standard wheels 7x17, ET38

What offset you need will depend on the width wheel you want to fit. 7.5 would be either ET32 or ET35

8" would be about ET30

If your friend is running 19s with standard suspension, don't go bigger than 235 tyres as they will rub.

not tru jon 245 will go on the fron with the correct offset... and you can get 255 on the rear......

But Paul, yours almost hit the arches, plus you aren't running standard suspension.

IIRC was std octy susp and he ran 245's all day :thumb:

255 to rear is no prob have seen golfs running 265 without rolling the arches if offset is correct.

IIRC Lloyd is running 19'', 235 35 and gets the odd rub now and again (when laden) on standard suspension (I think) but is generally fine.

Interesting the Rob could run Paul's 18'' 245s on standard suspension.......does anyone have an idea how this was possible considering it is generally accepted that 235 is the largest width possible on standard suspension.

width is not the issue... rolling radius is the prob... as more tyres become available in lower profiles then you can get away with more..

i have now found a source for 255/30 18 and may well try these for summer...

standard wheels are 17'' and come with 50 profile tyres...if you upgrade to 18'' and have 40/45 profile tyres isn't the rolling radius the same?

I thought the width was limited due rubbing onthe inner archor the mac strut?

in theory but if you change the offset to et 30 as on my split rims then the 245's clear.. 255s will just go i think...

but if you push them out too far they will start to catch on the lips of the arches... assuming the ride height is low enough to do it..

the rolling radius is key for acceleration lower the rolling radius and you drop the gearing...

hence im running 215-35-18 at the mo.. which makes it sprint quite well..

but for summer grip i will go wider for max cornering.. you will tear up the wheel arch liners with 245+ but as they need to go to aid brake cooling and intercooler air flow who cares?
