Octy VRS TDI v Golf GT TDI

Featured Replies

With all this talk about the new Octy VRS TDI, comparing it with the petrol VRS, what about comparing it with the Golf GT TDI (170).

Octy VRS TDI (170)

I can't comment on driving it, since the VW dealer still hasn't bothered to get back to me about a test drive.

However the golfs 'climate control' is the same as the octys air con not proper climate control.

To upgrade it to real climate costs a lot more than to upgrade the VRS with the climate/jumbo box/etc options.

Many other things are of a simlar spec since it is a GT spec not a GTI spec.

Also the seriving costs are a joke at our VW stealer.

Full air con service on a Octy 110TDI - £85 inc check, gas and antibac flush.

Full aircon service on a Golf 110 TDI - £96.50 for check and regas, plus £36.50 for antibac flush.

How can they actually justify this price difference?

I've driven the 140 GT and it was a cracking car!

I too have driven the TDI 140 Golf GT, not only was it a great car to drive, but it had most of the toys that I would want.

Havn't tried the TDI 170 yet.

I guess I would probably end up with an Octy Elegance (140) with sports suspension anyway.

Correct

Correct

Was interesting to watch the dealer squirm out of that one when i asked so is that the proper climate control or just the air con.

plus the octy has a big boot, which is why I bought one... compared to my mates A4 its vertically identical space wise...

plus everyone has a golf where as the octy is something a little different

Edit: oh and its a nicer looking car IMHO

Other option to compare against is a Leon FR TDI which is the 170 lump as well. That's a decent spec as standard - dual zone climate being one.

But a nasty hard dash and huge pillars in your view.

Each car has it's pros and it's cons the VRS included.

I've driven the Golf GT 140PS & didn't really rate it.

The ride was too harsh & it didn't seem to have any go.

It did only have 20 miles on the clock though.

What about the resale values of each car?

I'm sure it would be Golf - Octy - Leon.

I've seen a thread on here, talking about the resale value of the petrol v diesel VRS after 3 years, I'm sure paying an extra

Nearly 20 grand for the Golf ! Father in Law has the 140 and it's a good car but never worth that.
