steering problem

Featured Replies

Hi ,Im new to the group.I have a 2000 Octavia slx tdi estate. This is the best car i have ever had!!.Since i bought it 2 people at work have bought skodas.

Since i have had it.I had to replace front and back pads and discs.Pricey but they needed doing. The car has done 130 K.

When i got the car back it didnt feel "right"

I got vibration when i brake and noises when i brake.Sounds like a frieght train.

So it went back in.

They checked run out on discs--ok,checked wishbones and sterring joints.Slight wear in joint. So had new bushes fitted.

Seems ok now but the car pulls to the right when driving and feels "loose" I watch Nascar and they say that when the car doesnt feel right .

I love my Octavia and will deff get another .But i dont feel convident about the sterring. It just feels all over the place. Can any of your members give me some advice what to do next please.I have spent qite a bit of money. The garage where i go to says my car is straight and ok.

Perhaps i need to go to skoda???

Thanks

It may sound obvious but have you checked the tyre pressures, and is tyre wear even at the front?

Yeah. The pressures are ok.They are what Skoda says for the tyre size. There is no obvious uneven tyre wear.So i dont know??

dogbone mount?

I have the saggy steering issue and thats my next port of call on mine. Due to get it done shortly.

Have you tried having having the front tyres fingerplate balanced as that fixed a load of nasty vibrations in my tyres.

what's that...????

what fingerplate balancing?

The stick your fingers under a plate and drop the tyre on it :P

No effectively they mimic the wheel being done up against a hub by bolting it down while balancing it. This means that the balance is much more accurate than the standard method.

It cured a horrible wobble that the dealer swore wasn't there, but the tyre place pickedup on straight away. The place even did it for free as another brance had fitted new tyres a few months back to try and cure it and not balanced it correctly.

I have recently had the tracking and wheel balancing done that got rid of some of the wobble but it still feels a bit loose help !!!! I am going to try kwik fit tommorow will get back to you on this one
