design flaw

Featured Replies

Folks, Was just out washing the car and while cleaning the engine bay with

the hose I was flushing the dirt down the inside of the wing area and noticed

a leaf escape down the inside of the wing which prompted me to find out where

it went. it got stuck down at the drain area behind the front wheel arch.

Pretty easy to clean out but my guess is that if this was not cleaned the

leaves would build up and stop the water escaping, causing rust to form.

I would also hazard a guess that this will be common on all VW group cars.

Only takes 30mins to clean it out. Worth doing in my view. see pics.

Hope this helps.

P.S. Hope you understand what I'm on about.

Wont rust, the body is fully galvanised.

Can't remember the last time I saw a rusty Skoda :D

It's a handy tip for those clean freaks out there

Is it a good idea to squirt water about the engine bay ?

I've never done it and never would I think.

Seems like too many things that should only get water when they have to --i e rain.

Not being critical at all by the way. Just curious about your views.

Clearly detailed as acceptable in the owners book.

Oh and after cleaning engine bay.. be sure to spray all electrical contacts with water displacing fluid.

Clearly detailed as acceptable in the owners book.

It may be acceptable in the handbook, but don't forget the hassle I had with the blown 20A fuse in the steering column, 5 days off the road and Skoda refusing the warranty claim on a 5 day old car at first ......

All came good in the end though with Alex Lawrie. Just be careful spraying to much water near the Ebox and I would give it a good drying off around that area before switching on.

It was supposedly tracked down to a short from the ebox.

I'll pass on sloshing water around my engine bay thank you very much :D

Way too many boxes of gubbins in there.

I didn't say it was advisable did I? ;) :P

Although in truth is does mention to cover the alternator but nothing else. Common sense should prevail.

I'm still keeping my hose away from the engine ;)

there's a ban on dont'cha know :P

I was just looking for info on this as I wondered what the whole in the wheel arch protector was. Seems like all sorts of muck can spray up form the wheel as well. Not designed too wel me thinks!

would mudflaps cover it? do u think?

The same happens on my MK1 which has mud flaps. It doesn't really worry me.
