Bad squeaking noise- Occy Vrs Mk1

Featured Replies

Yesterday I had to park my car on top of a kerbed area, due to seriously lack of parking when taken my son to play an away footy match. At the end of the match trying to get off the kurb my offside front wheel slipped off the kerb with a thud! When I got home I had a check out and couldn't find nowt wrong APART FROM SCUFFED PLASTIC COVER ON UNDERSIDE OF CAR. Today I have noticed a terrible annoying squeaking sound from offside front of my car,but only when I break or turn which puts pressure on my front suspension. Anyone any ideas of what it can be? Would be most grateful for any suggestions Cheers .

My car squeaks when i dismount a kerb or shut the boot and bonnet, havent really thought about what is causing it, but its always been there since i bought the car 2nd hand.

If you've disturbed the plastic under tray, it could have moved backwards off it's mountings and could be rubbing off the suspension arm. If this is the case, it should be visible through the wheel arch on full lock.

Both my RS's do something similar to this. I found the noise to be coming from the front grille.

If it is metalic i guess you could possibly have damaged the ARB bushes or similar, but i wouldn't think that is the case unless they were already on the way out.

Again you should be able to see this with the front wheel removed or at full lock.

Hope you find out what it is :)

Could be the rad mounts

Thanks very much chaps for your replies.

I have know found the problem, it seems that I have crushed a metal cover that protects the control arm behind the offside wheel where the plastic cover ends. I had to use a little brute strength to bend it back to position and stop the metal rubbing with metal. I do know it's the last time I am going to park on the kurb.:o . So thanks alot chaps:thumbup:

Well better the protective cover than the control arm hey :)

Glad you got it sorted.

Can you give more detail to what you bent and where as the sqeak is now doing my head in on my car ?????????????

It was radiator mounts when it happened on my old one. To check just open the bonnet and wiggle the radiator up and down.

As a temporary fix, loosen the mounting bolts, pull the radiator upwards as much as you can, and retighten the bolts. Should last for a good few miles before recurring, but eventually the solution is new mounts (I never had to replace mine btw).

Cheers going to try that now...........................

Many Thanks to ncarring for help sorting out my squeaky motor.

Cheers.

Got my rad mounts changed under warranty Tuesday and they lent me an

LK Octavia with all the toys for the day.

Picked up my car and they had given it a good clean too. It was filthy after

the Briskoda meet on Monday.

Interesting, have just the same problem. The front squeeks when going on/off a curb or when breaking. Will try and check if it's the rad mounts as well, would be a nice and cheap solution!

The funny thing is that it only squeeks when it's dry! It's quiet in rainy conditions.

Thought it was the suspension...

Just checked the rad mounts but that doesn't seem to be the problem.

The front squeeks when going on/off a curb or when breaking and the strange thing is that it only squeeks when it's dry conditions! It's quiet in rainy conditions.

Does anyone have a clue about what it could be?!?

Right at the bottom of the radiator, there is a metal mount that dissapears to the right, not sure where it connects to but if i jam something in the way my squeeking stops.

Thanks for the pic matt, I'll check that metal mount a bit more carefully.

What are the ARB/ARB Bushes?!?

ARB is anti roll bar, you can find it behind the front wheel attached to the suspension.

The ARB on mine is black and hoops up at the ends.

The bushes for these are known to go funny, and if it is only happening when dry that would lead me to guess at them. Any indy garage will be able to change them and a lot of places rocmmend power flex for these. I can't comment on the powerflex mind as I had mine changed under warrenty.
