fabia 62 BHP drivin 180 km/h ??

Featured Replies

I never thought about this and would never bealive it to anyone telling me so, but i convinced myself yesterday driving my own 2yrs old fabia 1.9 SDI, 47 kw (about 62 BHP)with four people onboard, i reached a 180 kmh:cool: on highway from Sarajevo to Visoko.

To be honest, it was torturing after a 165...

I wonder what would happened I was alone? Would I get additional 5 kilos or what?

Can someone explane this...? Then what are capabilities of those RS, tunned skodas...etc ?

Adis, Bosnia:thumbup:

tjats about 112mph, the 1.9tdi fabia RS is capable of about 130mph issome have had them to 140mph and the octavia rs is about 150mph standard and virtually anything with tuning depending on your budget.

130mph=208kph

140mph=224kph

150mph=240kph

i've had my 4x4 estate at about 150mph.

Allowing for speedo error probably a true 168kph/105mph; long straight, downhill, tail wind seems OK.

On your own with 250kg less passenger weight you might get more BUT the extra weight, and the momentum it creates, could have helped you to wind the speed up downhill!

The Favia VRS is good for around 128mph/205kph and possibly + 5 more for a good one. By all account tuning doesn't increase the top speed by much just the acceleration!

Thats weird mate.. my 1.4 16V struggles to reach 180 in a long long straight

Thats weird. My 1.4 68bhp, can reach 170-175 (speedo) without problems.

Maybe you should have it checked.

Are you using the right fuel? The 1.4 16v needs 98+ Octane super unleaded.

Is your air filter clean?

my 2.0 fabia can get to about 130mph

i dont know, maybe those 250 kg helped in a certain way, but when i think again, it's more possible it would only gain the speed in case of a less weight.

At 180 I reached 4000 RPMs, and I dont think its possible to go any further of that...

Ah, but Fabia156 has big wheels on his - maybe they're causing a lot of drag at higher speeds?

How big?

I have 16" 7,5" wide, with 205/45/16 front and 215/40/16 back.

Maybe he should check his filters and sparkplugs.

I'm not sure for certain, I think his are 215/40/17's?

No, just 185/60/14'...It's astonishing I know..My Fabia's done aprox 35000 kms in these two yrs and while driving I thought it won't make it any faster than 160, but it took me about another aprox 90 sec to reach the 179-180.:o

That speedmeter is detailed into fragments of 5 kmhs so you can read almost the exact speed.

But with four of us on board..?Please...what is this skoda..

IIRC Yasser has 35 profile tyres...might be wrong....but yes, his wheels have a lot to do with top speed performance, they're quite heavy and huge.

62bhp and 180km/h? Your car must weigh as much much as a bike.

1150 kg :)

Totally normal car.

Are you using the right fuel? The 1.4 16v needs 98+ Octane super unleaded.

You sure about that?

If the car's not designed for it you'll get LESS power from 98 octane fuel as the timing won't advance accordingly.

My understanding is that Skoda advise to run it on super unleaded (97+ RON) but it can quite happily be run on regular unleaded. I suspect the quoted 101bhp is from runs using super unleaded so overall power may be less on lower octane fuel....

Chris

Definitely; it says so in the sales brochures and vehicle handbook. The 1.4 16v needs 98 Octane to get its 100bhp !

I do though believe your wrong in saying a car will get LESS power with 98 vs. 95 octane.

YES it may be true to say that you won't get MORE from using the higher octane fuel as there will be a point, due to the amount of ingition advance (or lack of it) on the timing curve where a higher octane, say 100+ is unnecessary as the engine won't be able to take full use of it. BUT I have found that on most cars today you will get better performance/fuel economy using 98 octane fuel not 95 octane - even a 1.4 mpi that I have run on 98+ octane for 3 years!

you will never lose power from running a higher octane fuel.

the octane rating of a fuel has nothing to di with how potent it is or anything like but more to do with how stable it is un der pressure/heat. if you have a car mapped for say 98ron fuel and you try running it on 95 then you may suffer detonation. detonation being where the fuel explodes in the cylinder before it should due to the increased pressure and heat.

on my octavia i cannot run 95 ron or less with my boost controller on full otherwise i get detonation, if i lower my controller to say 3/4 then it runs fine as there is less boost(so less pressure and heat in the system).

every car will gain in some way be it minute or masive from running higher octane/better quality fuel.

detonation being where the fuel explodes in the cylinder before it should due to the increased pressure and heat.

that's pinking and not detonation.......

detonation is when you have an uncontrolled burn in the combustion chamber..... normally caused by two flame front colliding with each other... detonation can also be caused by hotspots in the combustion chamber and overheating spark plugs...

I know the 100PD can see about 120mph on the clock, which is quite slow actually.

Everything in my car is fine, i Think its the wheels i have, My air filter is new and so as my spark plugs, and gettin around 11 from 0-100 :p

As for the Fuel, the 1.4 16V engine is probably the only engine of fabia that would run better on RON 98, which is wut i only use for my car and it makes a difference to me than using RON 95, you get better performance and fuel ecconomy with RON 98,

My rims are some Heavy 17's with 225/35 tyres,

It can see 130mph on the clock too ;) No idea what that is in real money though - 115mph?

Chris

My rims are some Heavy 17's with 225/35 tyres,

Ah ha! No wonder - those wheels/tyres are massive, particulary for a 1.2/1.4.

I put some standard VRS 205/45 16 wheel/tyres on my 1.4mpi and the increase in gearing, only 2.2% taller, and the extra weight definitely took the edge off the performance of the car. It didn't quite seem to zing as much.

I therefore swopped tyres to 195/45 16 (only 0.8% taller gearing) but it really brought life back into the car.

Sometimes more is less.

The difference between my current tyres and the Standard ones is around 2%..

215/40/17 would give me a difference of 4.5% :(

and the problem is, I cant find 225/35 anymore, as far as i know Only falken make that such low profile tyres, which is not available anymore, any solution for this? i dont want to change to 16"s

A quick internet search (in UK) shows up the following tyres available in 225/35 17

Falken GR B - Hankook K104 - Pirelli Pzero Nero - Michelin Pilot Sport - Yokohama A520.

Clearly a reasonable choice but obviously I have no idea which of these are available in Dubai !!
