Are 17inch wheel ok? URGENT

Featured Replies

I was to buy new Octy 2.0 TDi Elegance in the beginning of January, but dealer has just called me and said he has 2.0 TDi Sportline that is in the showroom for 4 months and he can sall it to me for the same price as Elegance, if I buy it in next 5 days (here in Portugal Sportline is 4000 euros more expensive then Elegance, but it has much more equipment).

I have one day to decide.

My doubt is about 17' wheels. There is no way to get it with 16'. As the Sportline already has sport suspension plus 17' wheels, would it be too noisy????? Is the riding rough or it's still confortable.

I know it's much more stable, safe, better cornering... but I dont want to loose all confort.

Halp me please with your advices, it's urgent...

Thanks, thanks, thanks

swmbo as 18" on the vRS and they cause no problems, the ride is a little harder than an elegance due to the sports suspension but it is not uncomfortable by any stretch of the imagination. HTH

i very much it will make much difference to ride quality at all, go for it!!

The 17s do affect the ride quality and depending on the tyres, can be noisier too. Whether or not it bothers you is down to you and surely the dealer will let you try the car, or similar on your local roads, before parting with all that cash.

I drove an elegance with 16" wheels and then I drove mine with 17" wheels and sport suspension straight after and the difference is minimal but the difference in looks is massive.

One snag might be that you then only get a steel spacesaver spare wheel.

But it's a 205/55/R16 so it's not one of those silly bicycle wheels you see on lots of other cars.

Go for it. Love the looks of the 17's

Does that mean you can continue your journey at normal speeds?

Most space savers are restricted to 50 mph or whatever, really only to get to nearest tyre repair place.

I think there is a restriction of 80KPH but the manual will tell all. Because the tyres are different sizes there will be unpredictable handling characteristics so keep the speed well down.

At least the spare doesn't look too daft :)

It's not really a problem. It's a full size steel with a full size tyre.

Speed rating is in place due to the posibility of a directional tyre.

Thanks to all of you guys,

I've just closed the deal, car should be ready to pick it up during next week:D :D :D .

It just came as suprise for me as I was not thinking to get it yet and now I'll have to ask the bank for bigger loan.

I sold my car early this morning and let me tell you, it was damn hard. The seller from SKoda dealer went with me yesterday and this morning to one dozen of second-hand dealers but simply nobody wanted the car. It's Toyota Avensis Petrol 1.8 VVTi Sedan from January 2005, gave for it 31.000 euros when I got it new. Only one dealer wanted it and after 1 hour of discussion about price we agreed on 17.000 euros. He simply didn't want to give more them 15.000.

After deal was closed he explained to me that for him it's big risk beacuse he don't know how to sell it. In Portugal, nobody wants petrol cars with higher engines. They can easily sell smaller cars with petrol but 1.8 will be hard. He stayed with the car just because he is buying almost all cars that Skoda dealer brings.

I knew it will be like that beacuse of the petrol engine.

I didn't have the time to look for somebody to sell it directly because deal for the new one had to be closed untill 3pm today. The dealer needed to sell the car this month that's why they were giving me such a discount.

But in the other hand I'm saving 4.000 euros by getting Sportline for the price of Elegance.

So, I still thing I've got good deal.

My last doubt is Xenon Lights. I've seen some posts here people complaining about front beams shaking and leveling problems. Am I going to have those problems? I wasn't worried about it as Elegance doesn't have Xenon, but now...

Thanks again to all

Hopefully your lights will be fine. If not, they will need setting up properly. Maybe your Portugese dealers are better than our crappy lot. I saw 3 different dealers about my lights, and Skoda UK too. None of them fixed it. Let us know how you get on.

Could you tell me what do I have to look for, I mean, when I get the car and drive it at night what is behaviour of beams that shows the fault?

Thanks

When travelling over sharp bumps such as drain covers, or cobbled streets, the light beam would shudder or appear to flicker on the road. Not around the edge of the beam but in the middle. It was as if to me the ECU controlling the lens was too sensitive, or the actual lens was loose. This shaking was visible from outside the car when driven towards me at night too. Other members here pertain to have the same fault and have had it fixed via VAG-COM.

Oddly enough, the flickering on my xenons is all but non existent now.

Weird huh?

Don't worry about the xenons, just go for them because they are well worth it despite the minor faults. Yours will probably be fine.

I have xenons and I wouldn't be without them - its an absolute no brainer. Yep there might be some minor shake over bumps but the beam level is self setting and on my car there are no complaints. I think any shake is more noticeable because the beam cut off is so defined.

:iagree:

I'm used to it now and I loved driving in the dak on my way home last night.

(note to self: must upgrade the main beam)
