flywheel question

Featured Replies

hi there

just had my car back from the dealers they told me they had changed the flywheel (they said it was a dual mass one ??) as it had siezed also put a new clutch assembly in they also did a few other bits and pieces

no sweat as it was under warranty

just wondering what fly wheel siezing entails and how did the car still work

i must admit i'm no mechanic so iam looking for a bit of info

Heres a page with some good info on it to save typing it out ;):D

Dual* Mass* Flywheel

Twin or duel mass flywheels are what we call a fast moving item in the parts dept ....like oil filters !

We change many each month (mainly high mileage cars like taxi's).......new Skoda eh,my Favorit still has it's original clutch an flywheel, the former is just hinting at a change but it is TEN YEARS OLD !!!!!!

yeah i read that but how does one seize leading to a new clutch as well

the damper mass seizes on the flywheel , it needs the movement in the flywheel to stop gearbox damage when changing gear and when the engine is turned off iirc , you change the clutch because you never put an old clutch on a new flywheel and the clutch usually gets damaged when the flywheel goes faulty
