Variable automatic intermittent wiping.

Featured Replies

The four variable intermittent settings seem rather odd on my Octy Elegance sometimes.

If the switch is placed to the far left, the wipers are at their most sensitive, and opposite when placed on the right.

However, on occasions it appears to work the other way round, usually dependent on the 'type' of rain.

Has anyone else experience this?

So, as opposed to the usual "timing" variability, this button adjusts the sensitivity to the rain sensitive system?

usually, far left means maximum time between wipes, around 15 seconds+., and max to the right only leaves about 1 second between wipes.

I think you are spot on when you mention "type of rain" I have noticed that moving the sensitivity switch to the far right sometimes makes no change at all to the wipers timing. they work ok when its rain droplets but are a bit more unpredicatable when the rain is smirry (not sure how to spell that) anyway I have stopped bothering about it now and let it do its thing, I think its just another daft gadget, probably not as good as the old standard intermitant job.

You're right about the sensitivity to rain type, but it does seem to depend on the individual car. I'm on my second Octy2 elegance. The first one worked really well from light rain (wipe every 20 seconds) right through to 'passing trucks' (high speed), this second one will go to high speed even in relatively light rain!

It might also make a difference if you'd clean the sensor-area of the windshield thoroughly. Lots of stuff accumulates on the glass, part of which you can see through but maybe the infrared-eye of the sensor can't. Also, cleaning or changing the wiper blades (together with cleaning the windshield) might help.

Ever tried vinegar for cleaning the windshield?

I have just applied rain-x to the screen and driven to Bolton and back in a terrential downpour.

I find the auto wipers an absolute farce.

They basically work as follows;

Slight hint of rain - one wipe

bit more rain- four to five wipes

starts raining and they go berserk and wont stop until long after the rainbow has gone.

Hence the Rainx turn them off and leave them off

I used glass cleaner the other day when cleaning and my sensor wipers have behaved very strange indeed. They go constantly, Think i will use vinigar in the screen since I have used glass cleaner my windscreen appears to have a film which prevents the wipers doing there job properly.

I'm glad I'm not alone. I've got rain sensing wipers on my Superb and to me having an intermittent function is a waste of time. They seem to please themselves, so i end up doing single wipes. I thought they may be faulty

I didnt post as I assume this is how they are meant to work.

I prefer the intermittent settings on the lower models,at least the wiping is constant

I seem to have found the ideal setting for mine at least. After much fiddling with the sensitivity I have settled for the far right, but then moved to the left one click. Seems to wipe the screen in the same way I would, eg. Light rain, wipes every 5-6 seconds and raining, wipes on normal speed only increasing to fast when in heavy rain. The only bugbear I have has already been mentioned, that is when it stops raining the wipers seem to take a while to realise.

:iagree: I use the exact same setting and it works really well bar the odd wobbler here and there :D
