Blowing headlamp bulbs?

Featured Replies

Hello,

my Fabia VRS has blown 3 offside, (drivers side), main beam, (not full beam), bulbs in the last week. This seems to point to an electrical problem somewhere. The car is still under warranty, so will go into the dealers to be looked at soon. However if there is anyone here who understands the arcane science of car electrics, specifically how they apply to the VRS and this particular symptom, and has any idea what might be causing this, I'd be interested to hear any opinions before it goes in for repair.

In advance, thanks.

Mark

Did you buy all 3 bulb's?

What make were the bulbs that blew? El cheapo or branded? :D

Did you touch the glass when you fitted them?

Thanks for the replies chaps. The first bulb to blow was the factory fitted original, then a cheapo non branded bulb, then a dealer supplied bulb. Apart from removing the blown bulbs, I've never touched the glass on any of them. One thing I noticed, but never paid any attention too was the headlight intensity dimming/brightening very marginally when the car was a rest and the throttle being blipped. I have a feeling that this is normal, but it may have some bearing on the issue. Is there some kind of voltage regulator anywhere in the system?

Thanks,

Mark

could be a faulty earth or electrical connector on the headlamp unit , had any of the bulbs gone a shiny silver colour inside ? this is usually a sign of a poor earth

Is it the H7's blowing?
