Good price for 2.0 FSI Sport from motorpoint - any drawbacks?

Featured Replies

iirc they will be an import from Malta, so check spec, not sure if you only get 2 years warrenty, other than that seem like agood buy....

Yes.

The 2.0 FSI sport doesn't have a turbo.

That might be classed as a "drawback"!!!!!!!

Still seems a decent price for the package, saw a red one the other day and it looked really nice. I see that some of the ones at motorpoint have 4 spoke steering wheels a couple had the nicer three spoke wheel.

Browsing the Motorpoint: UK's No1 Car Supermarket - New and Nearly New Cars website they have virtually new 2.0 FSI turbo Sport Octavias for £10700!!!!!!!!! Anyone see any obvious drawbacks to this offer?

Had a MK1 Vrs back in 2001 for a couple of years and I'd consider one of these sport octavias at this price as I can hopefully sell my 2003 Honda Accord Type-S 2.4 for £9000 to £9500.................

Before you get too excited they aren't vRS Octy's. They don't have a turbo they are 2.0 FSi not TFSi

I hear people are generally pleased with Motorpoint, they will offer cr@p money for PX's though.

Edit

Bugger - I always get beaten!!

It's certainly a good price for that car , though your p/x will be dire if you have one.

Whether the 2.0 sport is a decent choice of vehicle is a whole other thread

I would be careful at Motorpoint, some1 I know recently bought a petrol Fabia from them and did not go on a test drive for some reason:confused: anyway when he went to collect it, it had a tank full of diesel:eek: Suffice to say, Motorpoint denied any knowledge of this and said he must have done it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is now in the hands of his solicitor and he went to local dealership for his Fabia!!!!

The numerous phone calls each day, if you say you are interested to persuade you to give them a

Bought mine from them last May (vRS). The car is imported from Frank Border in Malta with EU spec - same as british. The car will been running with daylight running lights, so you will need them turning off........

Some good responses there, many thanks! Octaviarsman, your commets were really good to hear.

I've been to motorpoint before and I am aware how they do business and where most of the cars are sourced from, I can live with a little sorting out of things later when the savings are so substantial.

Motorpoint are not really geared up for test drives they much prefer to do the deal ASAP and generally expect their buyers to have used the main dealers to decide the type of car they are after.

I might test the market with some FOR SALE signs in my Honda and see what I can get....a trip to motorpoint should then follow. I will report progress. Many thanks again for your thoughts.

No problems mate. :)

You will get a two year warranty, however you will need to register this with skoda uk once you have your V5 through the post. Whilst im talking about V5's you will be the second owner..... motorpoint being the first.

You will more than likely have to have the local skoda garage set the car to variable servicing as well...... as i recenty found out ( after only 3,500) my car wanted a service via the indicator. It didnt need one til 20K but they said the garage in malta hadnt set anything up........

If you treat motorpoint as a strightforward importer and not a dealer you will be fine! i would however get the dealer at your cost to set it up properly though! as the maltise dont seem to and just ship them. dont get me wrong though! i saved 4K and i love the car! just a little more leg work than i first expected!

hope this helps!

I brought my VRS from motorpoint nearly 5 months ago and my experience mirrored octaviavrsman's almost exactly - even down to the service light coming on at 4000 miles! Had this and the daylight running lights reset at the dealer and got the car registered with Skoda UK - this is all I had to do, pretty minor considering the ££££'s saved.

This is my second car from Mototrpoint and I'll definitely consider going back there again - can't fault them for the price.

The Octy sport that motorpoint are selling are (according to motorpoint) bought from a UK supplier and will show the buyer as the first registered owner, even though they were pre-registered in July. (06 plate)

They are 10,700 but need a pdi, an extra

If it is a new car then surely it has 3 years servicing from SUK.

There was this offer for cars delivered up until 30th September, but I see on the Skoda UK Website that the offer is now until 31st December?

It is limited to 30,000 miles though/or 3yrs whichever is the sooner. Don't recall if previous offer had a limit on mileage?

My dealer said the offer also required fixed interval servicing at 10k intervals.

Yeah it is.

The Octy can be put on Fixed or Variable, for the purposes of the offer Skoda will put your car on Fixed. It will have no real consquence to you and can be put to variable after the last service.

True, but, so many people have told me motorpoint only import cars I decided to play safe. If it's not a UK car it'd only have 2 years warrenty (from what I have read on skodas website)

Not sure how the service works as I've not picked the car up yet or signed the paper work.

hehe

No I was meaning your car mate. You said your dealer gave you your first service free.
