Tailgate Boot Release

Featured Replies

I have a new Fabia VRs on a 56 plate and a bit mystified by the tailgate boot release. I have on several occasions picked up a couple of people on the way to work so sitting with the engine running they try and open the boot but it is locked so I have opened the drivers door and the release the activates. This then repeats itself for the second pickup. (importantly) so no case of once a door opens other than the drivers then it sorts itself out. However on the return trip set off like normal but when dropping them both off waited to see if they could open it and they both do with me not opening the drivers door. I cant believe there is any logic in it but wondered it any one else has experienced it or am I doing something wrong?

Stops someone nicking something from your boot if u've stopped at the traffic lights. This is the 'standard' anti hijack on the car (different from the 'anti-hijack' that locks the doors over 10mph).

And yes... as you've found just open drivers door.

I was gonna suggest the anti-hijack thing, but that wouldn't explain why it was ok on the way back (presumably travelling above 10mph!)?

Strange. Could it be that sensors in the seat sense when someone is in the car and once they get out - as a convenience - the trunk lock is deactivated?????

The only difference in the cases is that the people weren't in the car to start on the way to work when you picked them up and later, on the way home, they were. So maybe the car is just smart. IE:a seat is evacuated and so the hatch is automatically unlocked so that that person who got out could get his stuff without inconveniencing the driver.

(A WILD guess, something that I will try on my Fabia).

No.

Put it into neutral and release clutch, and the boot will open!

So anyone can nick stuff out of your boot when you come to a standstill at traffic lights?! My tailgate only ever released (with the anti-hijacking enabled) when I opened the driver's door which unlocks all the doors, when I used the remote release (key or pull cord in the car) or when I turned off the engine.....

No it won't!

I tried it today. As Neily said, it doesn't work that way.
