Front suspension clonking

Featured Replies

Hi

Hoping for some help.

I have a Fabia SDI, just recently I have noticed a clonking from the front suspension, it sounds as though a spring is not seated properly somewhere and on applying lock it is releasing energy. This is far more noticable on parkingi.e. low speedmanouveres. I cannot recall hitting anything orthink of any reason it started. It is however becoming more frequent.

Any ideas?

Almost certainly the drop link to the anti-roll bar. simple fix (specially if under warranty!) My son had same with his Fabia Vrs and replacing the drop link silenced the problem.

Checked today - eventually. Frontspring hasbroken at the top of the strut and mullered the bearing there. New parts ordered today I will advise how easy to fit later.

Fixed the spring yesterday, replaced both springs and also shockers and bearings at top. The offside spring had broken at the top and broken the bearing, it was resting on inner wing. Needed to compress spring to remove but all came out easily. Whole lot done for £140.00 - unbelievably cheap after getting used to Saab parts.

Incidently near side spring was also rusty at top - is this a rust trap, looked as though it could break soon.

I would advise anyone to check as once spring had resettled car drove normally.
