A little less rock and roll

Featured Replies

I would like to improve the front suspension set up and reduce the cornering roll. I suspect a simple solution would be stiffer springs but wanted to ask what the most straightforward fix would be without spending a fortune.

not sure if I want a diy fix but something my local mechanic could sort out.

what do you think?

Get some Eibachs on. Even with OEM dampers you won't regreet it.

First thing you need is the Jabbasport rear ARB. There are numerous reviews on site that cove rthe subject. They are £200 ish which may sound like a lot but this thing will drastically reduce the understeer and reduce overall body roll.

Second I would suggest the Eibach Pro Kit (Shocks and Dampers). Drops the car a further 15mm tightens up the roll significantly, improves the overall feel of the car whilst not adversly effecting the ride, it also removes most of the front nose dive nder braking that can make the car a little tricky sometimes (Especially with 312's fitted). This is a little more expensive at around £500 - £600 for the full kit. You can go for Pro Kit springs on their own for about £150 which will get rid of a bit more roll but you will loose ride quality on OEM shocks. Mine were fitted today and I now have the worlds largest diesel powered go-kart ;)

I've got the Jabba rear ARB with standard suspension, and it works really well - transforms the handling. If you can only afford one suspension mod, go for the ARB.

I'm after some springs, Just to stiffen up, and drop the ride height a few mm. Eibach's seem the way to go from past searches and reviews!

I keep thinking about reducing the body roll on my vRS. It's quite scary when you tackle some bends enthusiastically. But i keep thinking maybe it's because i've just gone from a car that was lowered with stiffer shocks etc and had very little body roll indeed.

However the ride suffered accordingly in my old car. It used to crash over bumps around town and got very tiresome towards the end of my ownership. Hence i'm not sure if i want to do the same to the vRS because i'm enjoying the comfort very much.

In the end i suppose it's down to the ol' compromise (as usual). Nice and comfy but won't be as much fun on the twisties OR Handles fantastically but jarrs you spine when tackling any kind of bumpy un-even road.

Or have i missed the middle ground i'm looking for???

Ok then, the Jabbasport ARB sounds like what I need to fit but what effect does it have on the ride quality.

I suspect i cant have my cake and eat it so to speak but i dont want to end up with rock solid ride.

could one of you guys who have one fitted let me know how it rides?

In a word: upright. Can't say I noticed any difference in the harshness of the ride. When you go into a corner you get a teensy bit of roll, then it stops at that angle and round you go. It's as if the back end suddenly knows what it's supposed to be doing.
