Reducing Dash Board Illumination

Featured Replies

OK so my Octy II has the dashboard illumination adjustment, but I'd like to reduce the illumination even more.

Does anyone know of a way?

Take the bulbs out ?:D

Turn your lights off :D

Sorry. I'll get my coat.

Lower than the lowest setting???

I would like mine brighter than the brightest...

I think the dash lights are a little too bright sometimes but i'll get over it.

Maybe someone can shed some light on the possibility of a VAG-COM tinker with the lighting levels unless its a physical limit with the electronics.

I guess it depends on where you are driving - with overhead road lights or not... I do a lot of rural driving where street light don't exist, it's then I'd like to dim them a bit more

The dimest setting is pretty dim.

Guess you could change the rheostat or one with more resistance at the bottom end, but then too much resistance will mean the LEDs won't light. That assumes they still do it all that way, which they may not)

I thought about this, but decided they would have changed things as the illumination on the radio changes, but it doesn't have an illumination specific connection.

I'd like mine to be dimmer, the dimmest setting seems quiet bright to me. Compared to the mondeo where you can vary the lights from almost off to bright.

Would the LED's suffer excessive flickering if they dimmed any lower perhaps?

I agree they could be dimmer than they are, especially when driving on pitch black country roads.

The dimmer isnt a rheostat as such. The dimming of the dash lights is controlled by the convienance ECU via a duty cycle from the switch. Not adjustable further than its exsisting limits.

Grin and bear it or tint the perspex cover :P

Where shades.............;-))

or a helmet with tinted visor.....

Close your eyes..............

Put your eyes on a duty cycle...

or pay a leccy engineer to change the LEDs to new ones with the same characteristics for voltage and current but which emmit less light.

Obviously the brightest limit is then dimmer too though.
