wipers

Featured Replies

In the middle of changing wiper arms, got the 13mm nut off put arm isnt shifting, anyone no how to take them off e.g twist and pull etc.

Cheers

They are meant to pull off but they usually sieze on. I found giving mine a wiggle got them off but I have heard that it's not always that easy! Failing that you could try a puller.

Wiggle it.

Just a little bit.

Try dribbling some WD40 or similar into the splines; then wiggle/pull!

I managed to manually pull off the arm on an A2 (only a few months old) but on a TT (about 4 years old) I had to use a ball joint puller hooked under the arm pressing down on the spindle. This is a fairly heart stopping process as there was plenty to damage nearby... It worked though. Both were done to fit Bosch Aero wipers.

Loosen the nut, lift the arm so that it is perpendicular to the windscreen and then rock the arm up and down (as if you were trying to put the the wiper back onto the screen sideways, if you see what I mean). I've always used this method and it always works (eventually). Did this with my Mum's 1999 Golf about a month ago and got both arms off without damaging anything or using a puller.

Try dribbling then wiggle/pull!

:o  ooh err
