Superb interior lights not working?

Featured Replies

I am now one very unhappy Superb owner - honeymoon is definitely over after five months. Having prescribed a new CCM (it would have been the third one for the car) and fitted it this morning, my dealer has now told me that it has not solved the internal lights problem. When I asked for the car back in order to go on hols tomorrow (I can manage for a few more days without automatic internal lights!) I was told that the car was dangerous in its present condition, indeed that it could "blow up" without any warning, and that they were not prepared to release it back to me. I was also told that it was possible that the vehicle may have been in this dangerous condition since new in March!

Now, I can understand that the CCM is an important module in terms of controlling various aspects of the car's operation, but I am rather at a loss to understand why its apparent partial misfunction might result in the vehicle "blowing up". I am therefore wondering whether anyone else on this forum has come across such a potentially catastrophic fault, be it in a new or old car?

Very interesting post Seloco, please keep us up to date.

I will do so. I have an appointment with the dealer first thing in the morning where I will insist on understanding exactly what is so dangerous about the CCM set up. I just hope I'm not being taken for a ride.....so to speak.

I would imagine the problem is not that the car will 'Blow up' but more likely that faulty wiring or electronics could cause a fire, which I suppose could theoretically end up in an explosion of some description!

Here's a brief update following my dealer visit this morning, at which I had the shock of seeing my new pride and joy stripped almost back to the body shell on the passenger side as they tried to trace the source of a short circuit causing an earth wire to the front overhead cabin lights to be permanently live. The eventual location of the short proved to be the passenger door mirror assembly, where it appears to have been caused by the movement of the mirror stressing the loom.

If folk are interested I will post further once I have picked up the car on Friday following installation of a new mirror assembly. I await with interest to see whether all the trims, panels, liners, handles, glove compartment, etc. that came out as part of the search will actually all go back together again as new....

I assume that you have the electric folding wing mirrors then mate? Elegance spec Superb?

Yes I do, Baker21; it's a 2.5 diesel Elegance. The dealer however did give the view that it could have been movement of the mirror glass rather than the retraction mechanism that caused the loom stressing. I'm not familiar enough with the mechanism to know how the respective movements differ relative to the wiring.

Hi all

I have posted over the past two years re; Xenons not working and the interior light issues - my pack under the passnger floor packed up over 12 months ago and

I went thru the past winter months not knowing what was in the boot / cabin as I had no lights working.
