Featured Replies

Hi All,

Im a noob so go easy - what sorta power output and weight do the Octavia VRs have as std?

Also for a Fabia VRs?

Next question being is there a powerful skoda with 4WD?

Sorry for my lack of knowledge in these area's - i own this :

But possibly going for a Fabia VRs soon if they can be tuned and be as fun economical as my G40 !

Thanks

Dave

P.S : Si and Leon - you doing any work today or you gonna try and say hello to the noobie? lol!

For the Octy vRS are you talking Mk1 or Mk2, petrol or diesel? :D

Fabia vRS: 130bhp, 1315kg

In standard form, the only powerful current Skoda 4x4 is this one:

Although the Octy 4x4 seems to respond well to tuning (Stuart J, EddyH and Bengie will be able to tell you more)

I guess that i need a low down on what they all are really - see what sorta specs eahc one has...

Mainly interested in the 1800 20v Turbo lumps though - i know most are around 150Bhp std soo hmmmmm

1.8t (petrol) is 150 bhp and 180 in the octy vRS. Edit: Octy II vRS is a 200bhp petrol.

Fabia vRS is a 130 diesel.

I'm led to believe both respond well to fettling...

Not sure about weights but a look on the Skoda site and they'll be there.

All are FWD.

HTH.

Ah in that case you're talking Octy I.

Elegance (4x4): 150 bhp, 1500kg (estate)

vRS: 180bhp, 1390kg (estate), 1375kg (hatch)

Excuse my learning curve here - so if an estate octy 1 : Elegance (4x4): 150 bhp, 1500kg (estate) has a 4WD setup - can you guys not incorporate 4WD systems onto the octavia coupe?

No. You cannot make a 4WD VRS.

You can, however, make a 4x4 look like a VRS if you wish by lowering it etc.

The 4x4 has different rear suspension that responds very well to aftermarket kits and can be very reliably tuned (sub £400) to around 220bhp.

You will find most 4x4's are estates as the hatch did not sell well and was dropped by Skoda UK.

You should also consider that the Octavia 4x4 is not full time 4x4 like a Subaru. Power eis sent to the rear via a hydraulic clutch affair when traction is lost at the front. You can upgrade this coupling (haldex) to give a more permanent 4x4 though.

There are some Mk1 Octy 4x4 hatches around with the 150bhp 1.8T - SimonT on here had one. They aren't as common as the estates as Goochie explained but they do exist if you search autotrader carefully

Hello :wavey:

There are three main options if you want a fastish 4x4 Skoda:

1) What I've done - get a Octy I 1.8T and chip it (Jabba did mine) to about 220bhp

2) Get a Octy I 1.8T and do a lot of work and have upwards of 400bhp

3) Get a new diesel 4x4 2.0 and chip it from 140bhp to around 200bhp

Costs (plus car, of course :) )

1) About

Is 3) realistic? Most tuners seem to quote 175-180bhp and I couldn't find a reference to it on Jabba's site....

So, just to clarify, the Octy 1 has a 1.8T 4 * 4 version - with a hydraulic clutch moving power to the rear when traction is lost at the front.

So by upgrading the coupling (haldex) to give a more permanent 4 * 4 power in an octy 1 - mapping and tuning the baby up to around 300Bhp should make for some comfy / fast motoring!

How much is the haldex stuff?

How much are Octy 1's going for these days?

I went for a blast in Si's vRS with approx 250Bhp - 3 up with stereo - and i was amazed - i drive a G40 and traction is the main issue with FWD - im looking for a RWD or 4*4 next - skoda being different and in the "WTF - a skoda just ripped my 330ci!" category - i thought id ask about mods etc as if i bought one i know i would want more from it so just investigating for now...;)

Correct

Here is a liggthly modified 4x4 Octavia (standard turbo) against a FWD Octavia, both with similar power:weight ratios. I think you can see which is which ;)

For 300bhp you will be loking at a larger turbo and the thick end of £2k+

You should get a nice 4x4 standard car for £6k

The standard spec on the Elegance includes a central arm rest, head lmap washers and an electric sunroof - none of which are standard on a VRS. Be warned though, not all Elegance spec estates are 4x4 ;)

The Elegance doesnt have a leather steering wheel, white half leather seats or silver/grey dahs trim around the stereo - the VRS does.

Golf GTi / R32 front and rear seats will fit straight in - even from a 3dr Golf.

I would also recommend sorting the suspension and uprating the brakes to 312mm vRS brakes too if you're looking to up the power. FWIW, 220ish bhp comes up relatively easily from a remap, but any more and you'll be looking at FMIC's and bigger turbos and the bhp gain per

my brother has a 4*4 estate (the white one in goochie's video) which has remap, fmic, blueflame tubo back exhaust+sports cat, LCR brembos, kw v2's(?) and 17's.

i'm really impressed by the way it stops, goes and turns, i just find it a little bit...numb.

and it's got a leather steering wheel

On the brakes front, the 4x4 comes with 288mm up front. You can get 322mm behind the standard Elegance wheels (the VRS estate carries 322's behind 16's)

Any bigger than that and you'll need new wheels.

288mm as standard

Thats funny as - Lol - Soory but i had a 280 Mm setup on my polo - so knowing what that was like i'd definately say the brakes need attending to first! Even before modding!

So 16's as standard - what do most of you go for size wise - i see matey had 18's but i much prefer a smaller rim (means you can get lower to the ground ;) )

ooooo options options options!

The vRS hatch comes on 17" rims. I thought both estate and hatch came with 312mm brakes...?

Chris

Yes, Chris. Both hatch and estate come with 312's.

I have a 280mm setup on my FWD Octy and it stopps bleeding well. The thing is discs all around and vented front. Also the pads are pretty good tese days unlike polo days.

Saying that don't you need at least 16" wheels for the 312 anyway .

I was using green stuff pads mate - not saying they didn't work well just ive been in cars with 4 pots and with 300Bhp i would want some!

Hmmm - this post has got me thinking!

You'll find the Octavia specific section full of useful info ;)

IIRC the rear discs on the VRS are vented but on the Elegance they're not.
