60,000 service cambelt

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I have just got off the phone too my local skoda main dealer where they have told me that my 2001 octy vrs will be £250 INC VAT for its service 60,000miles.

Seems good to me.:)

I then asked about a cam belt change and the first dealer told me it was not due until 80,000 on that engine:rolleyes:

The second dealer told me that they just performe a visulal inspection every 20,000 miles and there was no formal change time.

what is the truth??.

Also I have just noticed due to me needing two new tyres that I have 225/45/17 on the front and 215/45/17 on the rear shurely this cant be right?

many thanks in advance for any advice offered.

Neal.

They should be 205/50 17 as standard.

Either of the other sizes are satisfactory, but ideally should be the same but it wouldnt be unsafe as long as they are the same on each axle.

Local dealer quoted 80k for the belt change ?

2002 110TDi - belt changed on about 57_000 miles, last service before I bought the car.

Thanks for the responces guys,

but one last question is 80,000 miles the correct cam belt change for the petrol or dielsel engine or both.

Also I have heard mention that the belt should be done at 5 years irrespective of miles?

cheers

Neal.

Right

60k for petrol or 4 years (belt interval is actully 120k, but the belt must be checked at 60k and 20k thereafter, so it gets changed at 60k)

60k, 80k or 100k for diesels depending on build date and engine code or 4 years.

I just had my 60k service and cambelt changed last week. They quoted me £550 for the lot but when i picked it up I only paid £475, and that included some other bits and bobs that needed looking at.

Quite funny as the dealer asked me what they quoted, and was puzzled when it came out cheaper!!!

Just been quoted £475 for a cambelt service.

That includes a standard variable service and just the belt, no tensioner or water pump.

Now the water pump is only £30 on exhange so thats a non issue but the tensioners add over £140 to it all. So the question is do they need doing on a MY 2003 110 TDI.

Ta

I would; my Xantia died of a failure to replace the automatic tensioner, and several mis-diagnoses of the cause of the whine, until it broke, the belt slipped, and I got a broken camshaft and 2 smashed cam bearings, which were going to cost about as much as the car was worth to fix (without knowing about possible bent valves or chipped pistons).

A side question. Is is ok to ignore the service light?

Mine is currently on and has been for the last couple of hundread miles, but i want to service the car at 60,000mls, which is in about 3,000mls time.

I wouldn't wait 3000 miles.

I guess you could do an oil change yourself then reset it and get it done at 60k

but the tensioners add over

I was just quoted £170 for the kit or £30ish for the belt alone from my local dealer :(

lol, cheers cheezemonkhai, you always answer my questions :) think i will pm you next time :)
