Indicator Switch & Multiplex Wiring

Featured Replies

I wonder if any of you people can offer some advice.

My father-in-law picked up his new Octavia last week and had hand controls fitted (he's recently disabled).

He would like to get an additional indicator switch on the hand controls which are on the right. (Apparently it's a standard enough request as the left hand is always on the wheel and the right hand on the controls for brake/accelerator.)

Anyhow, he's told it can't be done because of the multiplex wiring. Anyone shed some light or offer some advice ?

Thanks

Podge

The immediate problem with the Octy II is that the stalks plug in and aren't connected by wires. They connect into a computerised controller which then carries out the actions required.

Thanks for that.

I presume by your reply that there isn't therefore a solution ?

I'm not saying there isn't a solution just telling you what I know about Octavia II stalks.

Hi Podge

Have you tried speaking to the people who did the hand control conversion? If they can't help then try some other conversion specialists. I would have thought that they would be able to sort it if anyone can as they must have come across this before.

Good luck. :)

Looking at what stu said you would need a specialist to make up a switch/splitter circuit.

This would connect to the current indicator stalk and would have a wire out for a second stalk. Assuming the computer registers every part it would have to present it's ID as that of the first stalk and pretend that signals comming from the second stalk are comming from the first.

A small PIC and 3 connectors should to the trick, but obviosuly you need the circuit designed and fitted.

Thanks for the info guys. The mobility equipment people here (Ireland) are telling me I need to send it to the UK to get the job done and it'll cost about 1k. Need to find out more info from them first.

Thanks

Podge.

If i have my head around it right, I can't see the parts alone costing more than £25 for the multiplex repeater. So add a stalk which i would guess is about £100 plus obviously a level of testing of the systems probably means £250 for developing the part.

On top of that you have modifying and fitting and getting your car to the people and back. I can see how it might cost the best part of 1k euros.
