JVC MP3 H/U - no memory!

Hi all,

I've just swapped the Symphony standard HU for a JVC MP3/Radio on my new Furby VRS. This is only a stopgap until I can afford an Alpine unit with iPod connector:) The problem is that when the igntion is turned off, the unit doesn't retain the memory of the station it was tuned to :(

This was a one for one replacement i.e. 2 plugs out of Symphony unit and 2 plugs into JVC. It looks like it's missing a permanent 12v for the memory, but is there an easy solution?

But the JVC h/u doesn't have a loom of it's own - that's the problem! It only has the 2 sockets in the back of the unit where the vrs loom plugs in, and I don't want to mess about with the standard fabia wiring yet

your saying that the JVC headunit has the full size ISO sockets on the back of the unit that the skoda loom pugs directly into? not knocking you but i find this hard to believe as i have changed many car stereo's over the last few years and changed many for friends(probably 20 in many different cars) from all makes(jvc/sony/alpine/kenwood/pioneer/blaupunkt etc) and every single one of them had a socket on the back that was specific to the make and they supplied a short(only 4" normaly) loom that had the specific plug on one end and the standard ISO socket on the other.

as the JVC unit is an mp3 player chances are its fairly new so only makes me think it would have its own loom even more.

forgive me if i am wrong but i would be very surprised if the cars loom plugged directly into the unit itself.

Just jumping in on this as I have a newly bought Kenwood KDC-W4034A with the same problem - radio works fine but looses settings when ignition switched off. Handbook has specific reference to VW/Audi cars and seems to imply what your'e saying. The radio side of the ISO plug (you don't seem to need to touch the car side) swap the yellow and red leads around. This should mean that the yellow lead on radio now connects to the fat brown lead on the car side (battery?) and the red lead on the radio now connects to a grey/white lead on the car?

Is this right?

Absolutely none, nix, negative, nil :) That's what I've been saying all along. There are 2 full ISO sockets - exactly like the skoda symphony unit and every one of the h/u's I've fitted in the last few years.

Unfortunately since I've never worked on a VAG car before, I'd never heard of the 2 wires that need swapping over.

To acheive this wire swap, an ISO to ISO lead is specifically made by Blaupunkt (Bluespot) to resolve this exact issue, and it worked perfectly.

sorry, we were working on the fact that we havn't seen a stereo with ISO connectors on the back but have manufacturere specific connectors and the unit comes with a short adapter type loom, but thats only the 20 or so that i have fitted so by all means not every unit ever made :)

I certainly havn't seen a unit with ISO's that didn't come with a car for years, even a JVC i just installed so appologies.

I have seen that little lead, and yes it works fine and is nice and small. The thing is just for the power iso and is supplied with the blaupunkt units IIRC.
