Allard race exhaust downpipe is on....

Featured Replies

..... Ooooh, and it sounds a bit different on tickover now. Has the wooshing sound still, but there's a distinct burble now. Basically involved taking off the downpipe and first section of my new stainless pipe, matching up to the racepipe, and thankfully, the stainless fitted snugly inside the race pipe. And even the hanger on the racepipe fitted the Fabia hanger (should think so too, with it being for a seat cupra ibiza)

So with some liberal exhaust pasting and a bit of angle grinding here, and clamping there, I now have a rather tasty downpipe.  Just can't wait to give it a spin - Can't at the moment as the car is still on the lift, minus its wheels..... Going for a bit of a brake caliper colour change. ;)

What color? With the wheels you got you should go black. Will look good against silver too.

Its a much darker shade of smooth green. If I decide I don't like them, then black is the next logical step.

Jason, is there any difference in diameter or shape between the Allard downpipe and the standard one?

You know why I'm asking:rofl: (exhaust fabrication is dirt cheap out here - I got de-catted for only 14 quid - with a really professional job)

Cheers:thumbup:

Well, I had a PD100 one on before. I could get my thumb and forefinger round, and touch them together AND get some good air between my fingers and the pipe. The new one I can't even get close to getting my thumb and forefinger to touch. Its HUUUUGE! :D

Slight downside would appear to be that the flexi is very stiff (shorter and wider) so it seems to be resonating the exhaust somewhere under the boot and this feeds through badly in the cabin at times. When cruising its OK. I swear the car feels faster. and the exhaust note has changed somewhat on w.o.t - almost quieter, if I dare say it....

I've been wondering about exhaust mods cos i've just ordered a PD160 intake from my local Seat dealer........ Might wait til next year for obvious performance mods though, still a years warranty left!!

warranty? [goes in search of this new found term.... ] ;)

Yes..... it's a new (and alien) thing to me!! This is the third car i've ever owned, the previous two were over 8 years old when i first jumped behind the wheel (and i've had my licence 9 years!!) I keep thinking about things i wanna tinker with but have to hold back when i remember about the warranty!!

Thanks for the info Jase - now I need to know how long your thumb and forefinger are in order to convert to cm/inches!!

(there must be an online converter somewhere that can do it....)

Cheers

well, my 2.25" stainless (is that measured on inner or outer wall? ) fitted snugly inside the allard downpipe (but tight enough to not be wobbly) My guess is the Allard pipe is 2.5". I would say the perfect exhaust would be 2.5" right from the turbo - just don't forget you need a flexi in there, and use the oem connector to the turbo itself (3 pin/bolt affair)

TBH the dealers normally wriggle out of fixing things anyway, may car lasted 6 weeks before going off to JBS, and that was brand new...

In theory the only bits of the warrenty that would be voided are the bits directly linked tothe mod - e.g. brake upgrade - brakes, although it is not unherd of for dealers to try and blame defective seat bases on the extra braking forces created

At the end of the day its your car and you can do what you please with it. theoretically, if you damage the engine because of a remap (which wont happen if you use any of the big names) the warrenty should still be valid on the rest of the car.

JBS and REVO maps may not be very much different to anyone elses maps, but they are switchable.
