Trip Computer Help !!

Featured Replies

Our vrs had its second service on sat and everthing went well but its only done 8000 miles so i wasnt expecting anything  .Anyway i used it tonight for the first time since the service on a normal journey i do every week same time same didtance, the average mpg reads anything from 40-44 mpg for this trip and has for as long as i can remember however this trip i have averaged 55 mpg:eek: now i would like to say it was my driving that has given this improvement but i think something must have been changed etc can anyone throw light onto this b4 i take it back in next saturday.

Thanks in advance

Paul

i know it sounds a bit silly but newer oil lubricates the engine better so there is less frictional losses, that does sound like a huge difference tho!!

One thing to be aware of, never take the trip as gospel for accurate MPG.

The only real way to calculate, is to fill tank, set trip to 000, then run till you reach the fuel warning, then refill, and read trip miles between fills.

2nd service is more that just an oil change, see your service book for the 20 k service, or check the bill you were given, to see what has been done.

I know what you are saying about the trip not being accurate but its the fact that b4 the service i could estimate roughly what the average would be because i do the trip ever week and i was never more that 3 or 4 mpg out but this is reading 10mpg more than it normally would be on this journey.

I do a 60 mile a day trip in my 2.0TDi octavia, and average 54ish mpg, so on a 1.9TDi, the figure you are now getting seems about right. Maybe before the service something was amiss, that has now been put right.

Does anyone know if there is a setting in the engine management system that might have been corrupted that works out the consumption as the other threads on here re over reading trip computers seem to imply that some do by a larger margin than others, when compared to the brim to brim method ,so does this mean that there is some code or program which works this out that could be changed in error while the car was in for service ?
