12 speakers Sound System - only with Audience?

Featured Replies

Still trying to figure out extras to order on my future Octavia.

Do I understand correctly that to get the improved Sound System you are forced to also get the Audience option?

I think you will find the 12 speaker system has now been deleted as an option.

Really? Without substituting it in any way? Skoda's websites do not reflect this if I'm not mistaken (neither UK nor Italy where I am from).

I've just got mine one week ago with Audience and 12 speakers Sound System

I'm sure i read on here that someone said it was now not an option in the UK.

But either way yes it was/is only available with the Audience.

Yes, as from the July introduction of the initial 2007 model changes, the Stream headunit can now play mp3s (and potentially has an mp3 aux socket too), and at the same time the Audience unit was dropped, which meant the 12 speaker system (which came with the Audience) was also dropped.

I thought as much, glad I wasn't going mad.

The only thing I dont really see the point in dropping the audience, yes the stream can play mp3's now, but only on the single disc in the HU. The six discs in the changer need to be ordinary music CD's. However with the audience all six discs can contain mp3's.

And the audience gets an amp and 12 speakers if you want.

The stream sounds very poor IMHO

Bit of a hijack, here, sorry...

Surely it must be possible to "flash" the old stream to allow the playback of mp3s? My (old) stream recognises that it's been given a cd-rom...

On a local Octy-forum there was also talk about this "flashing". The conclusion was, that the units are in fact physically different somehow. Atleast the MP3-capable unit's firmware updates don't work for the older unit.

Dang :(

You imply you have the firmware...

Would there be a chance of comparing the files for analysis purposes?

I wonder if, at this point I wouldn't be better off with an headunit from a regular vendor (Pioneer, Aiwa, Alpine...).

The AUX socket in the jumbobox stays even if you don't get the Stream option?

I wouldn't recommend changing the HU just because of one reason. If anything goes wrong with electronics in the car, they would connect VAG-COM that would give the error straight on, sayng "No Radio". That would be excuse to invalidate the waranty you have. I've seen on "SUPERB" Forum some time ago somebody complaining about some electrical problem but as radio (HU) has been changed they said to put back original radio so they could search further for errors. Till then, nothing done.

Strange, but that's the way it is...

??? No, I am talking about not ordering the radio at all. I have not ordered my Octavia, yet, I'm actually deciding among an Octavia, a Seat AlteaXL and a Focus C-Max.

If I get the car without the radio, I doubt that they could complain about me installing an aftermarket unit. :)

This is why I was asking about the AUX input in the jumbobox being tied to the Stream radio or not.

I'm not sure you can order Octavia without radio. Only Fabia in "Active" and "Classic" versions, I guess.
