Hello & Which car???

Featured Replies

Hello All :P

Brilliant forum you have here, lots of useful info!

I'm after some opinions on the following cars:

VW Passat SE/Sport 1.9TDI 130

Fabia vRS 1.9TDI 130

Octavia vRS 1.8T 180

I'm 22 and most of the time its just myself and the girlfriend in the car.

I travel 25~ miles to work each day and 25 miles back again.

I travel 100 miles to London every other weekend and drive 500 miles to Scotland once/twice a year.

I'm basically stuck on deciding which car to get!!

Obviously the Fabia is quite a small car, from what I can see though i'd easily get 2 suitcases in the boot without putting the seats down. On the Fabia front though what is it like on long journeys as mentioned above?

I *think* I may rule out the Octavia as it would not return anywhere near as good MPG as the Fabia & Passat.

Any suggestions/advice is warmly welcomed!!

Thanks in advance,

Aaron.

Any reason why you aren't considering a Diesel Octavia?

Plenty of room , decent performance especially if you get a PD130 1.9tdi , and 50mpg economy

I'll be honest I hadnt poked around enough and realised they had the Octavia with the 1.9 TDI PD130 engine!

Having a look around on autotrader now at them! Thanks for that :]

No probs.

The introduced the PD130 on an 03 plate and it's in Elegance trim , apart from a few Ambiente SE ones on 54 plates.

The easy way to spot the difference is that the PD130 has a six speed gearbox.

The 110bhp TDI only has a 5 speed

I think you need to decide if you want sporty or not. The Octy diesel has very spongey handling and is more of a cruiser than a car that likes to be pushed, plus you lose the sports seats that the vRS's have. The Fabia is ok for a long journey, but I'd personally rather have a slightly bigger car. :D

Other diesel options might be a Golf with the PD130 or PD150 engines? Seat Leon with the PD130/PD150/PD160? I looked at Passats and while they're nice cars, finding a low mileage one with the right options was difficult.....

It's a very hard choice though Chris :P

I dont really like the older shaped Leon's, love the new ones but my budget of 7k doesnt quite hit the mark for the new ones!

I'll have to keep my eyes peeled on autotrader I think...

An Octy 110 can be chipped up to 140bhp for about £500, if you'd rather the cruiser feel.
