VRS noisy on full lock?

Featured Replies

Does any one else have this, there seems to be an awful lot of noise from the front when on full lock, but only on uneven surfaces. On flat even surfaces its ok, normally happens when parking up in rough old car parks.

It doesnt sound like CV noise, more of a clonk than a click.

is it lowered ? if it is , it could be the roll bar knocking on the steering arm , in the Eibach spring kits there are alloy bushes to put on the steering arms to stop this iirc

I get similar sometimes. Might investigate it next time my car's on a lift.

Its totally standard, apart from the wooly dice:) Could it be that anyway?

i dont think so , you only get the interference between them when its lowered AFAIK , does the noise occur on both locks ? it could be just a noise that occurs when on full lock i.e. steering rack stops inside

Pretty certain it does it on both locks but I will investigate, it def does it on full right lock. Its in for a service soon so Ill mention it then.

I have the same problem in the car park at work, its a new car park but the surface is textured so it's non slip and I hear a clonk when turning to go up the "up" Ramp but thats even before I actually hit the incline.

mine has done it for over 1 1/2 years now. it's been into the dealers but they found nothing amiss. I guess it's my cars personality again :)

My vRs has made this noise ever since day 1. The car has still only done 7500 from new and has not been modified in any way. It only happens on full lock and on left hand turns and where the road surface is rough. The noise seems to be generated on the off side front wheel area

The dealer couldn't find any problem at all.....but I say that such a noise must mean that there is some mechanical irregularity either on the suspension or steering. Still, I have to admit that it doesnt affect the cars handling and it does balances out the clonk I get from the gear box mounting (similarly there since the car was new).

I'll be a very happy guy if I ever get to the bottom of this problem!
