Regardless of the actual process involved, the argument is basically the same - some importers will uphold warranty and feel safe about it, so why won't the others? There is no rational argument to support the latter stance.

But if you bought a tuned model on the continent and imported it to the UK, wouldn't they be obliged to honour the warranty?

This is what Skoda UK has to say in its FAQs:

Question:

I want to import a Skoda. Will my car still be covered by the Skoda warranty?

Answer:

Vehicles purchased prior to 1st Novemeber 2001 will be provided with a 1 year manufacturers warranty. Vehicles purchased and registered after this date will be provided with a 2 year manufacture

Reporting one day late, but here it is.

So, finally, it's mine...

Will be a long first 1000 miles running it in, but my initial impression after a long motorway stint and quite a bit of town driving:

IT GOES LIKE A DIESEL :D :D

No, really! There's torque everywhere. Touch the throttle and the power is, well, THERE. Immediately. And the surge continues all through the revs - that is, until my self-imposed run-in rev limit of 3500-4000rpm. That's what I call driveability, and that's what I was missing in the WRX, that only came on song above 4000rpm! Oh, and the jump away from the lights is not like that of a diesel nor a FWD/TC car :D - it's go from the start and just all traaaaaction. And that was taking it easy...

I'm also pretty chuffed with the MAD springs - very stiff and solid through corners, but still comfortable over a bas surface. Ride still looks a bit high-ish - not too far off the regular Octavia - but it was a whistle over the Amsterdam speed bumps.

The sports seats are somewhat alike to the regular seats in the Legacy (!), so just about OK, but the RS steering wheel (but without the sporty little holes in the leather) feels super.

Gearshift is a bit long compared to Subaru's, so that will take some getting used to - just as finding reverse!

Oh, and a small whinge about the dealer - they messed up with the mobile phone kit. Doesn't work. Will have to back for that, unfortunately, so back to the earplug for now.

Finally, my first new-car niggle has appeared - the door warning light won't turn off...
