Help adjust main beams - not align

Featured Replies

I've noticed that on my new Octy main beams blocks don't fit the way they fit in other Octavias. The problem is when I look at the lower corners of the beam's glass, those corners facing the center of the car, they stay like one cm ahead of the bumper. They are not aligned with bumber as they are in other Octavias. Dealer says it's OK, no need to do anything. I've taken both beams off and put them back on but they are still at the same position, so it's not that they are not fitted well. Next step sould be to adjust the way they fit.

Now, I'm not sure if I should try to find the way their support was fitted and see if I can correct it or the problem is bumper fitting. Basicaly, those corners need to get in deeper or central part of the bumber needs to go out a little bit.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Are you sure you put them back firmly enough. On mine it was possible to put the headlight in, slide the lock across and it sit proud as you say. I took it out, thumped it in, and it was fine. When the headlight is out, slide the lock in and out to check its function.

Tried that few times but it always gets to the same position.

Ok, had to figure it out by myself.

Took the beams out and it was simple. Two screws holding it on front-back and left-right position. Bellow each of them there is a ring to adjust the hight. Took me a while taking the beams in and out many times and it was like: "Just one more milimiter to the left, then just one more to the front, then it was too much etc, etc...", but after almost an hour my beams are sitting perfectly aligned with bumper, side wings and hood.

If anybody needs step by step explanation to do it, let me know, I'll be more then hapy to help.

Please do explain the step by step procedure bosjno, my left headlight has been slightly out since day one. Is there adjustment for up/down as well? I think it may be sitting a little too low as well.

Thanks for your help :)

Left-right, in-out, up-down, it moves every possible way.

Ok, here it comes:

First, you have to take the beam out by unscrewing one white plastic nut on the back of it (on the top, closer to the center of the front of the car). Then you need to unclip the big hook-clip that is at the front of the beam, area that is covered by hood when closed. You'll se black plastic hook (front, bottom of the beam, closer to the central grill). That hook has a little square tip on it, it looks like a small pedal. Gently lift up that pedal and the hook is free to be pulled to towards the center of the car. After the hook doesn't go out more, the beam is free to get out. push it from the inside of the engine compartment. That technique is also used when you need to change any bulb from the beam.

Unplug the cable on the back of the beam.

Now, be very careful not to drop the beam unit or scratch the glass.

Put the beam away.

Now you can see the big black base on the same level as the hook (where bottom of the beam goes). That base has two TORX screws. You'll need torx-25 key to do the adjustment. Screws are close to each side, each one of them. I've done it by unscrewing just one, not completely, just a little bit, so the base on that side moves front-back. If you need to move whole the base left-right then you need to release both screws. Unscrewing one screw is for adjusting each side of the beam in direction front-back, or both screws for moving left-right whole the thing.

If you need to adjust the hight of one side of the beam or hight of whole the beam, you'll see arround each screw one big plastic ring. You have to release the screw and with help of the pin that each ring has, turn the ring. You'll see if you turn one way, the base on that side goes up. The other way it goes down. Attention, if you release the screw just a bit and base needs to go up, by turning the ring it will touch the head of the screw so you'll need to release a bit more.

Whole the work is done by moving tha black base milimiter by milimiter and then putting the beam back to see if it now sits the right way. When checking, put the beam back and just clip the hook whole the way (make sure it's in whole the way). No need to plug the cable and screw the white plastic nut back. After everything is adjusted the way you like, do the last check by putting the beam in, clipping the hook and close the engine hood. Look carefuly and touch all ends of the beam to see if it's on the right place.

If everything is OK, take the beam out, plug the cable, put it back in, clip the hook and screw the white plastic nut.

Job done:thumbup:

And yes, you'll need to adjust the beams pointing after that as it's changed.

Very detailed guide - thank you :D One more thing - is there a foolproof way to disconnect the cable. I know I'm using the wrong technique because I tend to have to fiddle for ages and then it will suddenly come away with very little force!

Well, there is the way but it's still tricky. On the bottom of the connector you'll see square clip. That clip first has to go just like a half milimiter away, the same direction that you're pulling the connector to unplug. Then, connector goes off easily. Still, took me a while to disconnect them.

Thanks - I'll give it a go on the weekend.
