Hi, What's a fair price for this?

Featured Replies

Hi,

By way of introduction I'm not yet a Fabia VRS owner but hope to be shortly...

I'm hoping to pick up a Fabia VRS in the next month or so for about

On my experience, I'd take Glasses value for your Fiesta and add 1000/1500 quid on as a target trade in price. Tell them that's what you want from it and see what they'd do - remember it's the cost to change that's important and not the px or screen price :D

Cheers Chris,

Thanks for the reply, I must admit that I was/am concerned that a dealer will try to substantially undervalue my Fiesta.

What do you mean by 'cost to change' - I'm a bit thick!

Mark

Cost to change is the difference you will need to stump up between the dealers price of your new motor and what you get for yours.

e.g. £11,995 minus part ex of £6,000 = £5,995.

Full brand new list on the car advertised is only about £13k so I would say it is overpriced, Mine brand new was under £12.5K (spec in sig) so I would try and sell your car private and go in with cash for a new car from DTD or similar. hth

Yeah what Fish said. Basically if they give you an insulting trade in offer, make sure you take the money they've taken off your ideal trade in price off the screen price of the Fabia ;)

Chris

I would say it is definitely overpriced. According to Cheap New Cars For Sale UK New Car Dealers New Car Dealer Prices Best Discounted Car Prices at CarQuake Simpsons in Colne (about 30 miles or so from you assuming you live Wakefield way) will do a brand new VRS for £11245. Based on non-standard spec (cruise £125, paint £300 & Xenon £500 - prices from Skoda brochure) you could get a brand new car from them for a couple of hundred more than D M Keith want for a second hand one (question is what part x Simpsons would offer). If you are prepared to stick by your fiesta value & be as hard faced as the salesman then ScoobyChris's estimate of £1000 or so reduction should be achievable.

A heavily discounted new vRS seems good (as above), but remember, the part-ex will be bottom dollar. Dealers aren't going to be charitable and will want to make a small profit on your trade-in.

Try another dealer, don't know where you're based but Benfield Skoda in Harrogate Are pritty good [Well I think so]......Ask for Bill.......and they sell Fords!!

Agreed Fish. Swings & roundabouts rules apply on discounted new cars. Aways expect a dealer to claw back as much of the upfront disount on new as they can get away with by marking down the part x value of old. Still if the part x car has a listed value in such as Glasses then there is no reason to let the dealer walk all over you by marking it down too much. Selling the old privately as Postmanpat suggests is well worth considering if they do try it on at the dealers. Always remember Mark that at the end of the day the salesman will try everything he can to get as much of your cash as he can whatever way he can but its your money and if the deal doesn't suit then simply walk away - its the salesman loss not yours. You'll be surprised how quick a dealer can drop a price if he thinks he's going to lose a sale. As Fish said before, cost to change is what counts.

Your ford isn't an unattractive buy 2nd hand, so i'd definitely consider putting it in autotrader for a fortnight with a good pic. You'll probably get glass's private sale value within a couple of hundred quid depending on condition of it.

Then you can go to drivethedeal or somewhere similar and order a BRAND NEW fabia for similar money to the 2nd hand one you've seen

In my experience, the bigger a dealer, the harder it is to get a deal done...

I'd love to buy new but from what I've read the lead time for a non-standard VRS is up to 12 weeks. Bearing in mind I'd have to sell the Fiesta first to ensure I had all the cash for new VRS I could be stuck with no car for 3 months?

That was the main reason I'd gone for nearly new... to avoid the lead time?

Mark
