Milltek Exhaust Advice (fao Awesome Sarah too)

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

As I'm going to be going to the rolling road at Awesome GTI on Saturday I was thinking of taking the opportunity of getting a Milltek exhaust fitted at the same time (either a cat-back or full system). Awesome's prices seem pretty good but I was wandering if I went on the rollers too would they give me any discount on fitting or something?

I've done a search on exhausts and it was a choice between Blueflame and Milltek. Sounds as though Milltek is the one for me and the quality of them is excellent. However my main concern is that if I went for the high flow sports cat, because I have a Revo remap would that put the ECU into limp mode at all like some people are finding? I have no FMIC and do not intend to get one (maybe not until next summer at the earliest) so i don't want to run into this problem. The Fabia has only done 12k miles so the engine etc should be in good condition but I'm worried about the limp mode issue.

Also after reading through the old posts it is still relatively unclear whether it is worth getting a sports cat or just a cat back system. I'm mainly after noise but if spending an extra £200 or so is going to be worth it and not cause issues, what sort of benefits will I get from the sports cat apart from quicker turbo spool up?

Any help/advice/abuse welcome :D

I ran a Milltek turbo-back system without a remap and it was fine. Now I have a remap and a FMIC, it's even better.

And if it's worth doing, it's worth having the complete system.

Mine was RR'd before and after and showed an 8 BHP gain from the exhaust alone.

Thanks for that, was reading that the other day too. As I've got a generic map I know the map can't be tailored to take into account the exhaust but I'm hoping that there will be some sort of performance gain as well as sound. I'm also worried that as I have no FMIC then having a full system might put the ECU in limp mode due to the boost running high with the Revo anyway.

I think I have two options:

1) Milltek cat back only for the sound

2) Milltek full system + Forge FMIC.

I think the latter option is far too much unless Sarah wants to be really awesome and give me a good discount lol!

Just go for the cat back and put the cash saved towards a fmic.

There's no point in getting a FMIC if I don't get a sports cat either as a sports cat is only around 233 and it's best to get everything done at the same time. The turbo cut out on me last night when I being a lil naughty so I've decided to go for the works provided funds allow.

I'd be a bit concered it your cars going into limp mode. Their must be a reason for it. Like Dave Fox found out recently it was the vanes on the turbo sticking causing the car to overboost.

Anyway you fitted your ICE yet? :)

I've done runs like that before but in warmer weather, so maybe the colder air upped the boost and it overboosted? The FMIC should stop this and the Milltek will make it sound better lol.

ICE isn't in the car yet, was planning on selling most of it and getting the x-type components/sub in summer when I finsh uni.

Just been speaking to Dubsport and they seem to think that the turbo cutting out is normally a faulty actuator or something. Costs around 40-70 for a new one. They told me FMIC wouldn't really improve it but I'm going to try and get one anyway along with a full Milltek. Hopefully should make the car drive better and not cook the turbo!

Hi

Sorry last week was REALLY frantic as Andy was off and the phones did not stop ringing.

We wouldn`t be able to fit you in to get ths fitted for a whil on a Sturday anyway as Saturdays are fully booked until at least 6 weeks

Milltek do not have any systems in either and we will be waiting til another 10 days ish from now.

I would say that the cat will make the main difference with the turbo back system.

Cat back usually does not give that much gain , but with the sprts cat it will with the bhp

It is mainly throttle response with the cat back.

As for the remap you will find that generic remaps do not need adjusting when you get this on.

Sensors all round the engine will do any adjustments that would be required.

That would be a stage 2 that you would be looking at.

Most of the remaps that are out there can be adjusted to a stage 2 and this includes Revo.

To be honest I am not THAT sure what is needed for the stage 2 but I do think it is the turbo back exhaust and also at least a filter.

I must be honest and say that I do tend to tell people to do the mods gradually as then you can see the differences that all of the mods give you

FMIC will not give extra BHP but it will stop the BHP losses that you get when the engine temp is hot and the ambient air is hot.

Hope that helps

Sarah

Hi Sarah thanks for the info, especially as you replied ont he other thread too.

I didn't realise Revo could be tweaked? What is a stage 2 setting? I already have a PD160 pipe and green cotton filter so I'd just need the full system and fmic. Will have to beg for money off someone as I really want these mods!
