I get confuse which one is the average MPG and what is the other one, going from the clock pressing the switch down on the stalk.

(From memory) one is average mpg and the other is instantaneous mpg. Both for the journey

I go by the second one near to how much petrol is left, is this the average one.

from the clock down , outside temperature , then instantaineous (sp) miles per gallon , then average mpg for the journey , then range left for the fuel in the tank , then length of journey in miles, then length of time for journey . then if you press the button under the stalk you will get overall average mpg ,overall miles for all journeys and overall time for all journeys ,this resets all averages when it reaches 99 hours and 59 minutes iirc

Yes look for the circle with a diagonal line thru it , that is the average one. If you are in doubt , simply lift off the gas pedal and watch the display (make sure you wont crash into anything first!) if the display goes way up into 3 figures when you lift off then it isnt the average one youre looking at!

Just to add some more info - I believe the trip values (ie 1 not 2) only re-set after the engine has been switched off for more than two hours.
