Hybrid Turbo

Featured Replies

Hi

Im thinking of putting a hybrid turbo in my Fabia Vrs. Does anyone have any recomendations? Did it make a difference to the performance? Any Help is Appreciated.

Thanks

There are a couple of folks on here who have had Hybrid/Bigger Turbo upgrades, but its not just a matter of whacking on a Turbo. Other things to consider includeuprated clutch and gear box, plus a remap to handle the altered Turbo. All money TBH

I'm sure one of the main techies will be along soon to fill you in in more depth.

Which vRS BTW? Octy or Furby?

I have a hybrid turbo, but as Paul says, if you want to get the most out of it, you'll definately need a new clutch and possibly a FMIC for when it gets warm.

Of course, you'll also need a re-(re)map.

Once you add all the bits in, and labour, it's probably the wrong side of £2000 unless you buy the parts and then fit everything yourself / friends' help

Edit: I cheated :D Well, bought the car with the hybrid already on there. Added the clutch and FMIC, but still need to get the re-remap sorted out

check out allard and turbo dynamics for turbo's.

did anyone mention injectors? 'Cos I reckon they'd be needed too unless you like smoke screens.

No, mine dont smoke that much. Didnt bother with the intercooler neither. Thought i'd see how it coped in the summer and all was well.

Definitely worth upgrading the clutch if pipping 200bhp. :)

Front mount is an option, but it will be heatsoak city come the summer, and maybe even at cooler times of year.

Injectors on the pd130 do not appear to be necessary. I've seen reports of people running 245+ on standard injectors with a hybrid turbo (big bugger :D) so its fairly clear that the oem injectors are pretty good and not worth spending £800+ on i.m.o.

I'm waiting on camshaft developments now, which is likely to be the only "internal" engine mod I do, and its quite an easy one at that (compared to pistons, etc) :)

Think you need more than a hybrid VNT17 to max the injectors. A VNT20 should do it :)

From reading Allards website. It sounds like you can get away with the turbo your running and just an uprated clutch plate. Am i reading that correctly?

Bigger injectors will help with the EGT side of things, but they're well expensive.

I've got a hybrid turbo + FMIC and it seems to be a good combo, in that the hybrid is able to deliver more volume of air as well as keep boost at nice levels whilst in the 'safe' area of use.

Thing is, if you go down this road things DO get pretty expensive pretty quickly. I've got an LSD & uprated clutch & pressure plate to help put the power down, there are a fair few things left to play with though :D

Good value for money are the evry mod (not ideal but reasonable), a decent remap that doesn't overdo it. Beyond that it depends on how much reliability and performance you want/need from your car. If you are prepared to use your gearbox you can probably keep your standard clutch alive for a fair bit :)

Sounds rather nice that one :D

I had a ride in Lukes VRS at Jabba on Saturday thats had a hybrid added, front mount & one of Jabbas legendary remaps. Ill admit to being somewhat Impressed at just how good it was & how well it could pull in high gears from low revs. Certainly opened my eyes to what can be achieved by people who know what they are doing

looks nice, but a lot of money.......... only pulling 360 lb.ft, bhp is impresive though.

I got a hybrid KKK, blueflame, clutch and remap and get 380 lb.ft for about 1.5k less.

Still, looks nice

Hybrid KKK. Whats one of these then? The hybrids from the likes of turbo dynamics & Allard are made stronger to handle more boost then next stage is to have a larger compressor from a VNT20.

Lukes VRS at Jabba is making 227 bhp & 375 lbft torque, its also still kicking out 190 when it hits the limiter :) :) note its still on std injectors

Cars spec as follows

Red Fabia V/rs, full Milltek exhaust, decatted blueflame downpipe, jabba FMIC, Jabba Remap, Jabba ARB, Jabbasport stage 2 hybrid turbo, green filter, 160pd intake pipe, kw v2 coilovers, 312mm disks, team dynamics 1.2 wheels in black, tinted pimp windows, B&M quick shifter, black leather seats and doorcards, Leon cupra R splitter 227 bhp 375lbft and still growing

The turbo i had on the car from factory was a KKK, this was found out when Jabba sent the turbo away for exchange to a hybrid. Unfortunalty for me, none or the Garat turbos fitted so they prototyped my turbo and made a Hybrid KKK.

I take it that the Larger compresser from VNT20 is a stage 2 Hybrid Turbo?

Thats for a turbodynamics one yes. Also Allards VT2 uses a VNt20 compressor.
