Is it true about skoda :?:

That they are dropping the Octavia in favour of the Fabia for the later part of the Rally season

Does anyone know the reasons or seen any pics of the fabia WRC car

Just interested

Maybe a Fabia wrc next  for me

WRC Shakedown on CH4 in the wee small hours of yesterday morning said that they are going to be using the Fabia for the last three rallies of the year.

I would imagine that it could be a good move for the team, as the Octavia is probably the largest car that takes part in the rally. Mind you, at the moment, Skoda have two more manufacturer points than Subaru :D:D

I read something somewhere (Bouncing Skodas?) that the the Fabia has been quite a bit quicker in intial testing.

Octavia is apparently too big; may be something to do with wheel base. Shorter wheel babse make a rally car more responsive, supposedly.

WRC cars have a minimum length but this isn't anything to do with the wheelbase; just out the 206 GT homolgation special....all the extra length is in the bumpers.

I think that's it anyway.....

Adrian.

Hi 'Didier', I have just traced where you posted your reply from. Which country are you supposed to be in at the moment? :?

Off to do some more tracing... 8)

Salut!... a wannabe Inspector Clueso yes Pourquoi?

Bon chance

:lurker:

Didier, quand vous verrons-nous dans le nouveau Fabia?

As with most things in life, they evolve. The rallye cars got big Audi Quattro was big, now there getting smaller, Toyota, Pug's etc, makes sense to make the wrc the fabia form.

Maybe thats why Mitsubushi pulled out to make a small car, after all the lancer is quite big, scooby/octy size. Suzuki should enter some wagon -R's.

Colin - that is pretty much what the Mitso Ralliart press release said when they pulled out - "either continue developing the difficult Lancer WRC or opt for a new car based on the smaller Colt model."

Think that small is the way to go with the increasing emphasis on fast, twisty tarmac rallies. Gutted myself as I always preferred the long, tough rallies with dreadful  road conditions (altho slightly biased being born and brought up in Kenya!).

Anyway, maybe we'll see a stripped out Fabia vRS WRC - and then they'll build a proper road going light version (like Porsche Club Sports) so that we can have fun without all this comfort :trackday:

Yup - in this week's Autosport! :D

Scanned both picture and accompanying article. You'll find it here:

Fabia WRC looking good in that pic! Its a good move for Skoda , you cant help but notice how succesful the 206 has been , and I think Mitsu will use the Colt as its next WRC car , as I belive the Lancer evo8 is the last Evo thats being made? .... next colt will be based on the A class merc (and next Galant on the C class) because of it being a part of DaimlerChrysler AG now! I wonder if the Fabia will have a 206-esque rear wing as in the pic?

Thanks for taking the time and effort to scan the info.

Interesting read, I had heard on another Forum that Skoda Motorsport had been given a couple of years to start winning again, lets hope the introduction of the Fabia WRC and Auriol will just do that it will be great if they do - just like the days of John Haugland. I geuss if they dont the future sponership and funding of Skoda Motorsport will be in question Not quite sure what the central responsibility para quite equates to but sounds like quite a responsibility.

Still life in the old dog...

Gardemeister and Auriol finish 5th and 8th in the Rally NZ.

im sorry but removing the octavia is mistake!

Besides when is the wrc on tv?

Was on C4 Sunday afternoon.

The Octavia is a lot chunkier than the competition, but just slightly slower.

So I think moving to the Fabia will help redress the balance, and Skoda

might even win for once ;)
