MFD Version A D G and DX ? Which does what ?

Featured Replies

I am confused  . What should I get ?

Does someone know which functions are available on each of these units ? MFD Version A, D, G, DX

Is the Skoda DX the same as the Ford DX ?

Are there also A D and G versions of the Skoda unit as there are with the VW one ?

According to other forums ONLY the VW G version is able to do the following:  but its buttons are lit in RED

TMC active rerouting around roadworks and accidents using the Classic FM RDS TMC signal ( needs additional TMC box and cables )

Maxidot support

Multifunction steering wheel controls

Is this really true, or just advice from another so called expert who does not know how to activate them on the DX, D and A versions ?

What VAG-COM code should be sent to the MFD to make it work in the different models - Does someone have a list ?

I am sure there are a lot of Briskodians who who like to fit the Nav system but frightened off by the lack of consistant advice.

Please, if someone knows a technical guru at Blaupunkt, lets put together a definitive guide to installing the right MFD and programming it correctly.

Thanks in advance for any advice received.

I suspect that more Briskodians are frightened off by the price of the unit, and the cumbersome way it handles destination addresses.

I have installed both a vw g and then replaced it with a skoda b but in a 52 octavia there is a lot of information out on the web about doing this ,most of it applies to vw but lots of it applies to all vag cars

I started off reading this site and followed links as necassery

VWNavi - ** Unofficial Mfd Faq **

this links to a page that holds a lot of documents

it took about 2 hrs to do the first one including the programming changing took about 25 minutes last weekend

I plugged the unit 1U0 035 191 A into my 2001 Octavia (in place of the single-DIN Symphony cassette deck). I used a standard 'VW MFD plug and play adaptor' from eBay; it splits one plug (8 pin) into two plugs (8pin and 26pin). I didn't use VAG-COM, but then the unit was previously in an Octavia (a 2003 vRS). I didn't get a VW unit because the red would look naff in an otherwise green-lit interior.

The 'A' Skoda part number is the same as the 'D' VW part number. The 'A' and 'B' VW units are for cars < MY00. The 'G' VW unit is like a 'D' but has more features (spell checker and, given the TMC upgrade, the ability to use the dash display and steering wheel controls). I don't know if there is a Skoda equivalent for the VW G - maybe it's 1U0 035 191 B?

The TMC unit gets the traffic info from Classic FM (while you listen to another radio station). There's two versions of that: 3B0 919 894 and 3B0 919 894 A. Only the TMC A will let a VW G (or I guess a Skoda B) nav unit use the steering wheel controls or dash display. The non-A unit does traffic only.

A Skoda satnav unit can be found for under

Simple then  ;)

skoda B is not the same as a VW G ,I have had both fitted and the skoda B does not have the spelling function .when you are naming a town/street the G version

will only let you select letters for which it has place names that fit

Kynastonp: What car did you have the Skoda B unit in, and did it use steering wheel controls or a full-display dash?

OK, I will get a Skoda DX from ebay ( perhaps if coming from Lithuania I can pre-specify what I want before it gets half-inched from the car, oops they are not nicked they are all from genuine 'crashed cars' ! ). That way it looks the part with its green buttons etc.

I'll do the fit without the TMC first and see what works. I will try to get the steering wheel and display working ( a guy on vwnavi recons its easy by changing the steering wheel relay 451 for a 452 and using rem/data/clock connectors - I'll believe it when I see it working. )

mine was fitted in a 52 octy vrs ,no dash display and no steering controls ,so a very simple install all done with a plug and play adapter no soldering .I did consider a tmc box but finding the correct unit for a skoda b unit was tricky ,plus I was fitting a phatbox at the same time

langtone: I have read that some cars come with a 3LB (Three Line Bus) to CAN convertor built in, allowing a VW D or VW G unit to use steering wheel controls without the use of a TMC unit. IIRC, the guy who wrote this had a 03 plate 4Motion Golf, but I could be mistaken, or it could have been a US car.

Baffling stuff when you get really into it, but taking a Skoda DX Navigation unit (1U0 035 191 A) from one Octavia to another is relatively simple. :)

PS: Using my unit today, who's bright idea was Cyan on Light Grey when following a route on a minor road out in the countryside?

I had a VW 'G' unit in my Superb, TMC box is extra and frankly not worth it, most of the time it directs you round accidents that have been cleared up hours ago, so actually makes your journey longer!

The colour of the lighting was never noticed by anyone in 3 years, the Superb has red bits on the dials, climatronic and cat vision anyway so it doesn't look out of place really.

Expect to lose your steering controls and info display as it's very complicated and in some cases impossible to get them working, matching up navi units with tmc boxes and steering control boxes is basically hit and miss, no-one has a definitive answer as to what will work with what!

The navigation side of the MFD is actually very good, much better than tom toms etc due to the fact it doesn't rely soley on the gps, as stated it has a gyroscope built in so it knows what direction you are travelling in and can work out how fast too due to the abs wheel sensor signal too.

Admittedly it is getting on a bit now, and the interface is rather dated and cumbersome! still a nice unit though.
