creaky glovebox cure?

Featured Replies

anybody got a cure for a creaky glovebox? i know its a common fault i have done a search but it didnt come up with any cures. so far i have sprayed the hinges with oil and have tryed a number of different sized foam blocks between the glovebox and the dash so does anybody else have any ideas? :D

I found the vibration to be the actual catch on the door of the glove box that was rattling. Blue tac sorted it.

my glovebox has 2 rattles 1 that seems to be coming from a hinge and another that is coming from the handle that you pull to open it! but i can fix that 1 its the other one that has me stumped.

anymore ideas i need help the creak is driving me insane! lol

I found that the lift-up tray inside the glove compartment was making all sorts of noises when I first got the car. A cupboard door bumper under each corner fixed it a treat!

It might be that the whole thing's not screwed in quite right, which may cause it make noises as the car's body flexes while you're moving along. There's a guide I wrote on how to remove the glove compartment from a Fabia here. Although I wrote it for a different reason, if all else fails it might not not hurt to loosen all the mounting screws, give it a bit of a jiggle to make sure it's in place correctly, and then tighten all the screws back up.

HTH :)

I use little sticky rubber pads (from my surround sound speakers) and stuck them where the rubber gromets would touch on the folding part of the glovebox.

this makes the glovbox fit more snug. the only downside is that the sticky pads sometimes move a bit and have to be repositioned.
