General notes on 1.9SDI

Featured Replies

Hi All, new member here.

I bought 2 weeks ago a Fabia 'Y' reg ( 2000 ?) 1.9Sdi 85000 miles and i like it really well, 2 owners from new and FSH, its had a new clutch, timing belt done and my mate did a full service on for 90 quid (everything) i paid 1750 + an old fiesta for it, 12 mot + 6 tax inc. It has a Serpi Star ND5 alarm fitted as well.

Just to ask is there any things i need to look out for in general day to day driving, i do 90 miles a day to and from work on the M62 and calculated yesterday i got 58mpg, i got the calc method to do it if interested.

I purchased some OEM rear speakers (non fitted) but not sure if the wires are there ready.

I also purchased a central locking kit (not OEM) for 25 quid from ebay, good piece of kit, gonna fit it soon.

Thanks for your replies and putting my mind at ease, i am sure this car will keep me going for 500,000 miles ( according to the chap at local skoda dealer who said change the oil every 8-10 thousand and you will have no probs)

Thanks

Kevin

As you'll read from other threads on this site, the 1.9SDI is pretty much bullet proof. It's the same basic engine as the VRS but without a turbo. However in a small car like the Fabia performance is still ok. For the price you paid, it's a bargain and should be ok for many many years.

Welcome to the Forum.

Your sdi sounds like a good deal, I think this engine is a bargain provided you are happy to plod along.

Mind you ... not sure which will come first with 64hp on tap ... 500k or the end of the World :)

Yeh could be right with that, end of the world is looking fav.

As i say i do 90 miles round trip a day and read that this car is ideal for me.....

I just added some Xenon gas bulbs in the headlights from Discount Car Bulbs - autobulbs, autolamps, xenon headlights, car bulbs, headlight bulbs, osram silverstar, silver star, philips vision plus, philips blue vision, bluevision

and are very good also got few other mods in mind but dont htink you can do much to the SDI......

PS, does anyone know of a paint touch up kit, i got quit a few chips on the bonnet and need to fill n paint them with a decent paint.

Not found the colour code yet but i think its a Diamond White spec.

Thanks

Kevin

If you've a White Fabia , the colour is 'Candy White' , you may have to go to a Skoda Dealer to get a touch up kit tho , unless Halfords have any in?

I would change the brake fluid. Mine has just had new wheel cylinders because it got left too long and got water in it.

Also check the scuttle heater air intake for leaf debris. See article about wet footwell elsewhere.

Enjoy saving the planet :)

Sounds like a bit of a bargain to me.

my sdi estate will be 5 next march and ive had it from new , we love it as it takes us all(4+ 2dogs and cat) down to cornwall from yorkshire for just over half a tank of fuel has had some major problems though :

gearbox collapse at 30k plus told clutch was very worn!

power sterring pump failure

another cluch at 60k (this time i was told the oilseal contaminated the clutch) this was done under a private warranty

also less major things like roll bar bushes , water leaks , seat belts ect
