New Head Unit In Mark I Octy vRS

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm really sick of not having an MP3 headunit, so I'm thinking of putting my cheapo Sony one out of my old motor in for a while.

I'm completely clueless when it comes to this stuff, & wondered how to get the old unit out, if I need any special plugs or cables to connect to the new headunit, and if the original unit is a standard single din, or will it require a 'surround'?

Also, will swapping the headunit render my CD changer useless?

Any help appreciated

You require a removal tool...can be purchased a Halfrauds or go to your dealer and they'll usualy do it for free.

You'll need an adapter cable between head unit and wiring loom or you can swap the wires over if your confident enough....also can be bought from Halfruads depending on HU.

Autochanger will be redudant.

No surround required.

To fit HU it's best to remove glovebox...careful of light wiring....to pull the cable out of way round the back to allow HU to fit in all the way.

Adrian, lately I've found that if I remove the cubby tray from under the head unit I can get my hand in there to ease the power cables up out the way while the head unit goes back in, saves me taking the glove box out each time as I've had plenty of fun trying to improve the fm signal reception!

The tray was a swine to remove first time but now it pops out quite easily (even easier if the head unit is already out!) and there's no visible damage to anything apart from the clip at the back being slightly bent (which is easy to straighten up each time I put it back and is completely hidden anyway).

Just my method to make things easier.....:P .

a junior hacksaw blade cut in half makes a good removal tool for the symphony head unit
