Best Value for Money CPU - Folding wise

Featured Replies

Well now that I'm back on the mainland, I'm trying to get myself sorted (job, car etc) and I have now started my PC folding again - progress will be slow though as I have to keep switching folding off if I want to run GTR2 or Flightsim X.

So over the next couple of months I hope to build 1 or 2 dedicated folding rigs to replace those that I sold prior to going to Jersey. But which processor offers best bangs/buck for folding ???

The system specs will be fairly basic :

  • PCi Motherboard
  • 1GB System Memory
  • 80gb Harddrive
  • On Board Sound & Graphics
  • PCi Wireless Card

I dont want to spend fortunes on these things but would like to get fairly strong results for folding.

Plus if anyone spots any bargains going please let me know.

a P4 will be fast as it has a stunning FPU, however it munches the electric.

At that point i'd say get a lower end Core 2 Duo.
